Robert Boyle
Robert Boyle (; 25 January 1627 – 31 December 1691) was an Anglo-Irish natural philosopher, chemist, physicist, alchemist and inventor. Boyle is largely regarded today as the first modern chemist, and therefore one of the founders of modern chemistry, and one of the pioneers of modern experimental scientific method. He is best known for Boyle's law, which describes the inversely proportional relationship between the absolute pressure and volume of a gas, if the temperature is kept constant within a closed system. Among his works, '' The Sceptical Chymist'' is seen as a cornerstone book in the field of chemistry. He was a devout and pious Anglican and is noted for his writings in theology. Robert Edward Boyle
Robert Edward Boyle (March 1809 – 3 September 1854) was a British soldier and Liberal Party politician. Boyle was the fourth son of Edmund Boyle, 8th Earl of Cork, and his wife Isabella Henrietta (née Poyntz). He served with the Coldstream Guards and achieved the rank of colonel. At the 1847 general election he was elected unopposed as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Frome. Boyle was returned unopposed in 1852, but that election was later voided after an electoral petition, because Boyle's position as Secretary of the Most Illustrious Order of St Patrick election was held to be an office of profit under the crown. He was re-elected unopposed at the resulting by-election in March 1853, and held his seat in the House of Commons until his death the following year, aged 45. Serving in the Crimean War, Boyle died of fever in Varna, and was buried at sea. Robert John Lascelles Boyle, 11th Earl of Cork and 11th Earl of Orrery (8 November 1864 – 13 October 1934), known as Hon. Robert Boyle until 1925, was a British peer. The second son of Richard Boyle, 9th Earl of Cork and Lady Emily de Burgh, he was educated at Charterhouse School. Boyle was commissioned a lieutenant in the 4th (militia) battalion of the Somersetshire Light Infantry on 15 April 1882, and resigned his commission on 12 February 1887. From 1888, he was honorary attaché at Madrid. He married Josephine Catherine Hale (d. 2 April 1953), daughter of a California merchant, on 30 April 1890; they had no children. During the First World War, he was the honorary secretary of the British Club for Belgian Soldiers, an organization to provide recreation and refreshment for Belgian soldiers on furlough from the front lines. Robert William Boyle
Robert William Boyle (October 2, 1883 – April 18, 1955) was a physicist and one of the most important early pioneers in the development of sonar. Boyle was born in 1883 at Carbonear in the Dominion of Newfoundland. Boyle left Newfoundland for Montreal, Quebec in Canada where he trained at McGill University under Nobel Prize winner Sir Ernest Rutherford, in the then fledgling field of radioactivity. He earned McGill's first Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1909. He then moved to England to continue his work by following Rutherford to the University of Manchester. In 1912 he returned to Canada at the request of Henry Marshall Tory to become head of the physics department at the University of Alberta, and shifted his research to ultrasonics. Bob Boyle (footballer)
Robert John McLean Boyle (7 December 1876 – 10 September 1927) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Boyle, a half back flanker in North Melbourne's 1903 VFA premiership team, was used as a centreman during his time at Carlton. It was in that position that he appeared in their 1904 Grand Final loss and after losing his place in the side just one match into the 1906 season, thus missing out on that year's premiership, Boyle retired and took up umpiring. He officiated in 59 VFL matches as a field umpire and 15 matches as a boundary umpire from 1907 to 1917. He was appointed to the 1916 VFL Grand Final on the boundary but chose to field umpire the final of the Ariah Park Association. He was replaced on the boundary by Bill Roy. Captain The Hon. Robert Boyle-Walsingham (March 1736 – 5 October 1780) was an Irish Royal Navy officer and member of parliament. He was killed in the Great Hurricane of 1780 while serving as a commodore in HMS ''Thunderer''.
