Robert Bowman (April 6, 1965) is an American swimming coach who is the current head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils swimming and diving teams of Arizona State University. Bowman is best known as the coach of 23-time Olympic gold medalist American swimmer Michael Phelps. From 2005 to 2008, Bowman served as the head coach for the Michigan Wolverines swimming and diving team of the University of Michigan men's swimming & diving team. From 2008 to 2015, he worked as the CEO and head coach for North Baltimore Aquatic Club. In 2015, USA Swimming appointed him the head coach of the men's U.S. 2016 Olympic Team. Robert Alexander Bowman (born 21 November 1975) is an English footballer who played professionally for Leeds United, Rotherham United and Carlisle United. Career Bowman was a defender who represented Leeds United, Rotherham United, Carlisle United, Bohemian F.C. and Gateshead F.C. amongst others during his career. He made his first team debut for Leeds as a 17-year-old and won the FA Youth Cup with Leeds in 1993 against a Manchester United side which included the likes of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes. Robert James Bowman (October 3, 1910 – September 4, 1972) was an American professional baseball player. The native of Keystone, West Virginia, a right-handed pitcher, played all or portions of four Major League Baseball seasons (–) as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and Chicago Cubs. For his career, he compiled a 26–17 record in 109 appearances, 71 of them as a relief pitcher, with nine saves, 13 complete games, two shutouts, a 3.82 earned run average and 146 strikeouts in 365 innings pitched. He allowed 360 hits and 139 bases on balls. Bowman is most noted as being the pitcher who in June 1940 beaned former Cardinal teammate Joe Medwick, an incident that nearly cost Medwick his life. Robert Leroy Bowman (May 10, 1930 – January 27, 2017) was an American professional baseball right fielder and pinch hitter, who played all or part of five seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies (1955–1959). Late in his career, Bowman saw action as a relief pitcher, as well. He batted and threw right-handed, standing and weighing , during his playing days. Bowman attended Abraham Lincoln High School (San Jose, California) and played right field for the Phillies from 1955 to 1958 and was noted for his strong throwing arm. The Phillies briefly tried converting Bowman to pitcher in 1959 when they were short arms in the bull pen. He made his first appearance pitching against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 28. Robert Bowman was a broadcast journalist for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). He was the son of Charles A. Bowman, editor of the Ottawa Citizen newspaper, and a member of the Aird Commission that recommended Canada have a public broadcasting system.
