Robert Blennerhassett (MP For Tralee)
Robert Blennerhassett (c. 1622 – c. 1689) was an Anglo-Irish soldier and politician. He was the son of Captain John Blennerhassett and Martha Lynn. He was probably born at the family estate at Ballycarty Castle, County Kerry. The Blennerhassett family was originally from Cumberland. Robert's grandfather Robert Blennerhassett (who accompanied his elderly father Thomas) settled in Kerry in the reign of Elizabeth I of England, Elizabeth I as part of the Plantations of Ireland#Munster Plantation (1583 onwards), Munster Plantations. He was the brother of John Blennerhassett (died 1677), John Blennerhassett MP. Blennerhassett served as an officer in the New Model Army, Cromwellian army during the Irish Confederate Wars, ensuring that his lands remained intact. Killorglin
Killorglin () is a town in County Kerry, Ireland. As of the 2016 CSO census, the town's population was 2,199. Killorglin is on the Ring of Kerry tourist route, and annual events include the August Puck Fair festival, which starts with the crowning and parading of a "king" wild goat. History Origins and development The earliest evidence of ancient settlement in the Killorglin area is the presence of prehistoric rock art. These rock carvings are part of a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age tradition stretching across Atlantic Europe and occur in concentrations around the Iveragh and Dingle peninsulas, with a cluster close to the nearby town of Glenbeigh. There are also a number of ringforts and early Christian ecclesiastical sites in the townlands of Dromavally and Castleconway. Harman Blennerhassett
Harman Blennerhassett (8 October 1765 – 2 February 1831) was an Anglo-Irish lawyer, a member of the Society of United Irishmen who emigrated in advance of their rebellion in 1798 to become a socially and politically distinguished plantation owner in western Virginia. Implicated in the Burr conspiracy, an alleged military plot with Britain to separate Louisiana territory from the American union, he was twice arrested and financially ruined. His last years were spent in England. Life He was born in Hampshire, England, to Conway Blennerhassett and his wife, Elizabeth Lacy. He was the grandson of Conway Blennerhassett and the great-great-grandson of Captain Robert Blennerhassett. Colonel Sir Rowland Blennerhassett, 1st Baronet (1741 - 14 March 1821) was an Anglo-Irish lawyer and baronet. Life Blennerhassett was the son of Robert Blennerhassett and Frances Yielding. He was the great-grandson of Robert Blennerhassett MP.John Debrett, ''Debrett's Baronetage of England: with alphabetical lists of such baronetcies as have merged in the peerage, or have become extinct, and also of the existing baronets of Nova Scotia and Ireland'' (J.G. & F. Rivington, 1835), 347. He trained as an attorney and practised law. He was the colonel of the 'Laune Rangers' militia regiment of volunteers from 1779 to 1782. Between 1796 and 1797 he was a Justice of the Peace in County Kerry. William Spring (British Army Officer)
Lieutenant-Colonel William Collis Spring (1769 – 14 August 1825) was an Anglo-Irish British Army officer of the Napoleonic Wars. Early life Spring was born into the Spring family in County Kerry, Ireland in 1769. He was the son of Captain John Spring and Mary Blennerhassett Collis, and the great-grandson of Robert Blennerhassett MP. Military career He purchased an ensigncy in the 48th (Northamptonshire) Regiment of Foot in 1789, subsequently purchasing a lieutenancy in same regiment in 1793. He first saw service in the Caribbean against the French during the French Revolutionary Wars, and was part of the force under Charles Grey, 1st Earl Grey which captured several French island colonies. Between 6 May and 4 September 1795, he commanded a company in the 69th (South Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot.
