Robert Bentley (animator)
Robert Jarvis Bentley (11 March 1907 – 28 November 2000) was an American animator who worked for Warner Bros. Cartoons, Fleischer Studios, the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio, Tex Avery, Walter Lantz Productions, UPA (animation studio), UPA, Hanna-Barbera and Filmation among others. Early life Bentley was born in Philadelphia on March 11, 1907, the eldest child of three to John Harrison Bentley, Jr. and Hannah Helen Jarvis Bentley. John Harrison Bentley passed away in 1918, and later Hannah Helen married pioneer animator Leslie Elton, although this marriage did not last. Career Bentley started his animation career in 1929 as an assistant animator at The Van Beuren Corporation, the Van Beuren cartoon studio in New York City, later working for Les Elton's independent studio on his 1931 cartoon "Simon the Monk". Andy Panda
Andy Panda is a cartoon character who starred in his own series of animated cartoon short subjects produced by Walter Lantz. These "cartunes" were released by Universal Pictures from 1939 to 1947, and United Artists from 1948 to 1949. The title character is an anthropomorphic cartoon character, a cute panda. Andy became the second star of the Walter Lantz cartoons after Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. He achieved considerable popularity until being eventually supplanted by Woody Woodpecker. History When Oswald the Lucky Rabbit retired in 1938, following a nine-year run, Walter Lantz's studio went for months without recurring characters. Plot The cartoon starts with an owl named "Owl Kott" (satirizing Alexander Woolcott's ''Town Crier'' radio program) giving an introduction to the festivities. The title is a parody of ''The Case of the Stuttering Bishop'', a Perry Mason mystery that Warner Bros. had filmed earlier that year. This is the only cartoon where Petunia Pig appears as Porky's sister. Plot On a dark and stormy night, Porky and his brothers (Patrick, Percy, Portis, Peter) and sister (Petunia) learn from lawyer Goodwill that they are set to inherit a fortune from their deceased rich uncle Solomon, with the "kindly" lawyer next in line after them. Plot The short begins with many views of the #515 4-4-2 Atlantic type steam engine, Alfred, after the title card appears to be showing the front of the train and the engine. A message appears reading: "The 30th Century Limited, the railroad's crack train." Alfred blows his whistle 4 times and rings the bell 2 times. The song "California, Here I Come" plays in the background until Porky's scene comes along (The same 4-4-2 engine later appeared on the Merrie Melodies short "Steamlined Greta Green").
