Robert B. Lindsay
Robert Burns Lindsay (July 4, 1824 – February 13, 1902) was a Scots-American politician, elected as the List of Governors of Alabama, 22nd Governor of the U.S. state of Alabama during Reconstruction, and serving one term from 1870 to 1872. Early life Robert B. Lindsay was born in Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, on July 4, 1824. He studied at the University of St Andrews before emigrating to the United States in 1844. The Eutaw riot was an episode of white racial violence in Eutaw, Alabama, the county seat of Greene County, on October 25, 1870,Shapiro 12. during the Reconstruction Era in the United States. It was related to an extended period of campaign violence before the fall gubernatorial election, as white Democrats in the state used racial terrorism to suppress black Republican voting. White Klan members attacked a Republican rally of 2,000 black citizens in the courthouse square, killing as many as four and wounding 54.
