Robert Adams (science Fiction Writer)
Franklin Robert Adams (August 31, 1933 – January 4, 1990), who published as Robert Adams, was an American science fiction and fantasy writer. He is known best for his ''Horseclans'' books. Writings Robert Adams is known primarily for his post-apocalyptic fiction. His first book, ''Coming of the Horseclans'', published in 1975, was the first of his post-apocalyptic works, and began his ''Horseclans'' series. The series is notable for having a detailed world and labyrinthine timeline (many of his ''Horseclans'' books are so cross-referenced that they make sense only when read in sequential order). The ''Horseclans'' series became his best-known works. While he never completed the series, he wrote 18 novels in the ''Horseclans'' series before his death. From 1979 to 1989, Adams published several books as part of the series ''Castaways in Time''. ''Magic in Ithkar 3'' is a shared world anthology of fantasy stories edited by Andre Norton and Robert Adams. It was first published as a trade paperback by Tor Books in October 1986 and later reprinted as a standard paperback in September 1989. Summary The book collects fourteen fifteen short stories by various fantasy authors which share the setting of an annual fair in the city of Ithkar, together with an introduction by Adams and notes on the authors by Norton. Setting As described in the introduction by co-editor Robert Adams (identical to that in the previous volumes), the world of which Ithkar is a part has suffered from some past holocaust which wiped out an earlier, higher civilization. Subsequently, the area which became Ithkar became a base for the explorations of three godlike visitors, who came to be worshiped as actual deities after their departure.
