Robert A. Simpson
Robert Archibald Simpson (April 5, 1910 – September 24, 1998) was a politician from Alberta, Canada. He was born in Toronto. Political career Simpson ran for a seat in the House of Commons of Canada in the 1962 federal election, as a Social Credit candidate in the electoral district of Calgary North. He finished second to incumbent Douglas Scott Harkness by roughly 6,000 votes. Simpson challenged Harkness again a year later and lost by a wider margin. Shortly after his second defeat for federal office, Simpson ran for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the 1963 general election, as a Social Credit candidate in Calgary North. He defeated three other candidates by a wide margin. In the 1967 general election, he defeated Henry Beaumont of the Progressive Conservatives by about 400 votes. 1971 Alberta General Election
The 1971 Alberta general election was the seventeenth general election held in the Province of Alberta, Canada on August 30, 1971, to elect seventy-five members of the Alberta Legislature to form the 17th Alberta Legislative Assembly. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta led by Peter Lougheed won 49 of 75 seats with 46.4 per cent of the popular vote in the new legislature to form a majority government. Lougheed's Progressive Conservatives defeated the incumbent Social Credit Party led by Premier Harry Strom who won 25 seats with 41.1 per cent of the popular vote. The 1971 election ushered in the Progressive Conservative dynasty in Alberta, which continuously held a majority government for 44 years from 1971 to 2015. Rose Wilkinson
Rosamond Wilkinson (née Owens; March 19, 1885 – December 18, 1968) was a provincial and municipal level politician from Alberta, Canada. She served as Calgary city councillor 1936-1955 and as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1944 to 1963. She was born in County Cavan, Ireland. Political career Wilkinson was first elected to public office as a Calgary city councillor in 1935. She would serve on council until 1955. For some of this time, she also was a MLA. Wilkinson ran as a Social Credit candidate in the Calgary provincial electoral district in the 1944 Alberta general election. She was the third most popular candidate in the city-wide district used at the time to elect Calgary's five MLAs. The 1975 Alberta general election was held on March 26, 1975, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta to the 18th Alberta Legislature. The election was called on February 14, 1975 prorogued and dissolved of the 17th Alberta Legislature. The Progressive Conservative Party led by incumbent Premier Peter Lougheed won its second term in government in a landslide, taking over 62 per cent of the popular vote and winning 69 of the 75 seats in the legislature to form a majority government. The Social Credit Party saw its vote collapse. After 36 years in government from 1935 to 1971—virtually its entire history—it was ill-prepared for a role in opposition. Roy Farran
Major Roy Alexander Farran (2 January 1921 – 2 June 2006) was a British-Canadian soldier, politician, farmer, author and journalist. He was highly decorated for his exploits with the Special Air Service (SAS) during the Second World War. Farran became widely known after being court martialled on a charge of murdering an unarmed 16-year-old member of the Jewish underground militant group Lehi during his command of an undercover Palestine Police unit. After his brother was killed in a revenge attack, Farran emigrated to Canada where he forged a successful business and political career, holding a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1971 to 1979 sitting with the Progressive Conservative caucus.
