Robert A. Holekamp
Robert August Holekamp (May 4, 1848 – May 1, 1922) was a businessman and apiarist from the St. Louis, Missouri, St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves, Missouri, Webster Groves, Missouri. Holekamp was significant in the development of Webster Groves, and had state and national influence in the field of beekeeping. Childhood in Germany Holekamp was born the son of a Lutheran minister in Nordstemmen, Hanover Province, Germany. At the age of 14, he went to Hildesheim to attend college. In 1868 he joined the German army and served for two years, leaving as a non-commissioned officer. In 1870, he came to the United States and settled in St. Louis. Business endeavors Upon arriving in St. Louis, Holekamp worked for various employers before becoming the manager at a door and sash dealer. An apiary (also known as a bee yard) is a location where beehives of honey bees are kept. Apiaries come in many sizes and can be rural or urban depending on the honey production operation. Furthermore, an apiary may refer to a hobbyist's hives or those used for commercial or educational usage. It can also be a wall-less, roofed structure, similar to a gazebo which houses hives, or an enclosed structure with an opening that directs the flight path of the bees. History Apiaries have been found in ancient Egypt from prior to 2422 BCE where hives were constructed from moulded mud. Missouri State Fair
The Missouri State Fair is the state fair for the state of Missouri, which has operated since 1901 in Sedalia, Missouri. It includes daily concerts, exhibits and competitions of animals, homemade crafts, shows, and many food/lemonade stands, and it only lasts 11 days. Its most famous event is the mule show, which has run since its inception. The fairgrounds are located at 2503 W 16th Street on the southwest side of the city at the intersection of West 16th Street (State Highway Y) and South Limit Avenue ( U.S. Highway 65). The Missouri General Assembly is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Missouri. The bicameral General Assembly is composed of a 34-member Senate and a 163-member House of Representatives. Members of both houses of the General Assembly are subject to term limits.
