Robert-Baldwin is a provincial electoral district in the Montreal region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It includes a portion of the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough of Montreal as well as the city of Dollard-des-Ormeaux. It was created for the 1966 election from a part of Jacques-Cartier. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it gained a small additional part of Pierrefonds-Roxboro from the Nelligan electoral district. It was named after former Prime Minister of the United Province of Canada, Robert Baldwin. Nelligan (provincial Electoral District)
Nelligan is a provincial electoral district in the Montreal region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It comprises most of the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough and all of the L'Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève borough of Montreal, and the city of Kirkland. It was created for the 1981 election from parts of Pointe-Claire and Robert-Baldwin electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost Senneville to the Jacques-Cartier electoral district but gained from it the part of Kirkland that it did not already have. It also lost a small part of Pierrefonds-Roxboro to the Robert-Baldwin electoral district. It was named after the noted Quebec poet Émile Nelligan. Pierre Marsan
Pierre Marsan (born June 29, 1948 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Quebec politician. He was the member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Robert-Baldwin for the Quebec Liberal Party. Marsan went to the Université du Québec à Montréal and obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration and would add a master's degree in health administration at Université de Montréal. He was a guest teacher in the faculty of administration at the Université de Montréal and was a director in hospital services at the Hotel-Dieu's Saint-Jérôme Hospital. He was the general manager at the Montreal Heart Institute and the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur. He was an assistant director at Santa Cabrini Hospital. He was also a board member for several institutions including the Montreal Heart Institute, the Epic Foundation, the Hôpital du Sacré Coeur Foundation and the president of the Association of Canadian Teaching Hospitals. Carlos Leitão is a Canadian politician in Quebec, who was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2014 election. He represented the electoral district of Robert-Baldwin as a member of the Quebec Liberal Party until his retirement from politics at the 2022 Quebec general election. Pierrefonds-Roxboro is a Boroughs of Montreal, borough of the city of Montreal. It was created January 1, 2006, following the demerger of parts of the city. Geography It is composed of the former municipalities of Pierrefonds, Quebec, Pierrefonds and Roxboro, Quebec, Roxboro, spanning the northern part of the West Island. William Shaw (Quebec Politician)
Frederick William "Bill" Shaw (October 13, 1932 – May 26, 2018) was a Canadian politician from Quebec. Background He was born on October 13, 1932 in Montreal and was a dentist. He served in the Canadian Army in the 1950s. He graduated as an oral surgeon from McGill University in 1958. Before he ran for office, he was a Progressive Conservative activist. He co-authored ''Partition, The Price of Quebec's Independence'' in 1980. He moved to Ontario in 2010 after retiring and died in Port Perry on May 26, 2018. Provincial politics Shaw unsuccessfully ran as a Union Nationale candidate to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 1970 election in the district of Robert-Baldwin, finishing a distant third. The Parti de la Liberté de Choix (English: Freedom of Choice Party) was a political party in the Canadian province of Quebec. Focused on anglophone rights issues, it ran candidates in provincial elections from 1979 to 1982. The party should not be confused with the Freedom of Choice Movement, a separate group that also promoted anglophone rights issues in Quebec. Fabre (electoral District)
Fabre is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. The district is located in Laval and includes the westernmost portion of Île Jésus (or Île de Laval) west of Autoroute 15 in the northern half of the district and west of Autoroute 13 in the southern half. It was created for the 1966 election from a part of Laval electoral district electoral district. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost part of its territory to the newly created Sainte-Rose electoral district, but gained some territory from Chomedey. In the change from the 2011 to 2017 electoral map, it will gain some more territory from Chomedey, in the area around Parc Le Boutillier. Robert Baldwin
Robert Baldwin (May 12, 1804 – December 9, 1858) was an Upper Canada, Upper Canadian lawyer and politician who with his political partner Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine of Lower Canada, led the first responsible government ministry in the Province of Canada. "Responsible Government" marked the province's democratic self-government, without a revolution, although not without violence. This achievement also included the introduction of municipal government, the introduction of a modern legal system and the Canadian jury system, and the abolishing of imprisonment for debt. Baldwin is also noted for feuding with the Orange Order and other fraternal societies. The Lafontaine-Baldwin government enacted the Rebellion Losses Bill to compensate Lower Canadians for damages suffered during the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1837–1838. Chomedey is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located in the western part of Laval. It takes in part of the Chomedey neighbourhood. It includes most of the territory bounded by the Rivière des Prairies to the south, Autoroute 15 to the east, Autoroute 440 to the north and Autoroute 13 to the west. It was created for the 1981 election from parts of Fabre and Laval electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost some territory to Fabre. Jacques-Cartier is an electoral district in the West Island of Montreal, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is the only provincial electoral district in Quebec with an Anglophone majority. It notably includes the city of Pointe-Claire. Named after Jacques Cartier, the district existed in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, and its present incarnation dates from the 1867 election. Dollard-des-Ormeaux
Dollard-des-Ormeaux (; commonly referred to as D.D.O. or simply Dollard) is a predominantly English-speaking suburb of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It is located on the Island of Montreal. The town was named after French martyr Adam Dollard des Ormeaux. The town was merged with the city of Montreal in 2002, and became part of the borough of Dollard-Des Ormeaux–Roxboro. When residents were later offered the option, they chose to leave the city of Montreal, and the town was reinstated as a separate entity in 2006. Name The orthography of the city's name has been adjusted periodically. Originally written as Dollard-des-Ormeaux, it became Dollard des Ormeaux (no hyphens) in 1960, and reverted again to the hyphenated spelling in 1969.
