Roberdel, also known as Roberdell, is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Richmond County, North Carolina, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 246. The community is in central Richmond County, north of Rockingham, the county seat. It sits on the north side of Hitchcock Creek, a southwest-flowing tributary of the Pee Dee River. Richmond County is a county located on the central southern border of the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 42,946. Its county seat is Rockingham. History Early history The earliest inhabitants of the land eventually comprising Richmond County were Cheraw Native Americans. The first European settlers in the area were Scottish Highlanders, who traveled up the Cape Fear River valley to find farmland. English settlers initially arrived in the northwestern section of the eventual county after traveling down the Pee Dee River and gradually became the dominant European-descent group in the area. Rockingham is a city in Richmond County, North Carolina, United States, named after the Marquess of Rockingham. The population was 9,558 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Richmond County.
