Robbie Shepherd
Dr Robert Horne Shepherd (28 April 1936 – 1 August 2023) was a Scottish broadcaster and author who was known for presenting shows on BBC Radio Scotland and for writing a column in Doric for Aberdeen's '' Press and Journal'' newspaper. Life and career Shepherd was born in Dunecht, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 28 April 1936. In the 1950s, he worked as an accountant on Union Terrace in Aberdeen, while additionally trying to be a musician, playing the mouth organ. Afterwards he started working as a compère for variety shows. He also worked as a producer for variety shows and theatres, before moving on to broadcasting. In 1980, he took over as presenter of the BBC Radio Scotland show '' Take the Floor'', the longest-running radio programme produced in Scotland, which he hosted until 2016. Dunecht
Dunecht ( gd, Dùn Eicht) is a slightly linear village on the A944 road in north-east Aberdeenshire in Scotland. It is not to be confused with Echt. Dunecht is located 12 miles (19.5 km) west of the city of Aberdeen and is situated by the confluence of the Kinnernie and Bervie burns. Formerly known as Waterton, it was renamed to Dunecht in the 1820s when the Crawford family built Dunecht House. The estate achieved a certain measure of notoriety in 1881 due to theft of the remains of the Alexander Lindsay, 25th Earl of Crawford. Dunecht House, once owned by Viscount Cowdray is now privately owned. Dunecht House is to the south of the village and was once famed for its observatory, ballroom and library, as well as gardens which were opened once a year to the public. Strathdon
Strathdon (; Gaelic: ''Srath Dheathain'') is an area in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is situated in the strath of the River Don, 45 miles west of Aberdeen in the Highlands. The main village in the strath is also called Strathdon, although it was originally called Invernochty due to its location at the confluence of the River Don and the Water of Nochty. Also included within the area of Strathdon is the settlement of Bellabeg which has many of the local community's main facilities. Strathdon is an informal geographical area. This means that there are no precise boundaries in terms of where it begins or ends. It is the founding place of the Lonach Highland and Friendly Society, and the Lonach Highland Gathering.
