Robert John Maurer (born January 7, 1967) is a retired Major League Baseball (MLB) first baseman, Maurer attended Mater Dei High School in Evansville, Indiana and the University of Evansville, where he played for the Evansville Purple Aces The Evansville Purple Aces are the intercollegiate sports teams and players of the University of Evansville, located in Evansville, Indiana. The Aces athletic program is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and competes at the NCAA's Divis ... baseball team. Maurer was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 6th round of the 1988 Major League Baseball Draft. He appeared in 21 games for the Rangers Wearing #39 during the 1991 and 1992 MLB seasons and retired from professional baseball after the 1994 season. First Baseman
A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. The first baseman is responsible for the majority of plays made at that base. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the first baseman is assigned the number 3. Also called first sacker or cornerman, the first baseman is ideally a tall player who throws left-handed and possesses good flexibility and quick reflexes.
