Rob Curry is a British film director, best known for his work on theatrical documentaries. ''Way of the Morris'' is a 2011 64-minute documentary about Morris dancing by Tim Plester and Rob Curry. The film received preview screenings at the Purcell Room in London's Southbank Centre as part of an Arts Council funded festival, "5,000 Morris Dancers." It premiered at the 2011 SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. The film was self-released by Fifth Column Films in UK Cinemas in September 2011. Reviews were positive, with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 100% based on 6 reviews, with an average rating of 6.6/10. It was later broadcast on Sky in the UK and New Zealand. Tim Plester
Timothy Marc Plester (born 10 September 1970) is a British actor, playwright, and filmmaker, best known for the documentaries ''Way of the Morris'' and ''The Ballad of Shirley Collins'' - plus a multifarious number of cameo roles for film and TV. Early life and education Born and raised in Banbury, Oxfordshire, Plester graduated from Dartington College of Arts in Devon, with a BA in Theatre, and went on to obtain an MA (Hons) in playwriting studies from Birmingham University. Career Plester's award-winning documentary ''Way of the Morris'' premiered at SXSW 2011 and received a limited theatrical release in UK cinemas before being released on DVD. Co-directed with Rob Curry and produced independently by Fifth Column Films, the feature-length documentary includes contributions from Billy Bragg, Fairport Convention's Chris Leslie and members of The Adderbury Village Morris Men. SXSW
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. Southern Journey (Revisited)
The ''Southern Journey'' is the popular name given to a field-recording trip around the Southern States of the USA by the renowned ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax. He was accompanied on the trip by his then-lover, English folk singer Shirley Collins. It resulted in the first stereo field-recordings in the Southern United States, and is perhaps most noted for the 'discovery' of 'Mississippi' Fred McDowell. The music collected on the trip has had inestimable impact on the development of popular music. Tracks recorded on the trip were sampled by Moby for his Platinum-selling album Play. It also served as the inspiration for the soundtrack to the Coen Brothers' film O Brother Where Art Thou . The Southern Journey is the subject of a fascinating autobiography by Shirley Collins entitled ' America over the Water'.
