Roim Olam ( he, רואים עולם, lit. ''Seeing the World'') is a Weekly foreign News Magazine from Israel public Television Channel 1 News - Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA), broadcast since 1987, every Shabat evening. The show was initially presented by Emmanuel Halperin, and today by Ya'akov Ahimeir. The show opens with a news flash segment (usually presented by Dalia Mazor), and thereafter stories segments on various current affairs and culture matters from around the world are being broadcast. Many of the show's story segments are borrowed from foreign news magazines, many times from 60 Minutes, and from France 24 France 24 ( in French) is a French state-owned international news television network based in Paris. Channel 1 ( he, הערוץ הראשון, ''HaArutz HaRishon'', lit. ''The First Channel,'' sometimes called 1 ערוץ, ''Arutz Ahat'') was one of the oldest television channels in Israel (with only the Israeli Educational Television being older) and one of five terrestrial channels in the country (along with Channel 2, Channel 10, Channel 33 and the Knesset Channel). The Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA; ) was Israel's public broadcaster from 1948 to 2017. History The Israel Broadcasting Authority was an outgrowth of the radio station ''Kol Yisrael'', which made its first broadcast as an independent station on 14 March 1948. The term Motza'ei Shabbat ( he, מוצאי שבת—literally, the going out of the Sabbath) in Judaism refers to the time in the evening immediately following Shabbat, that is Saturday night. It is a time when, following one's declaration of the intention to end Shabbat, it is permissible to resume weekday activities that are prohibited on Shabbat. This may occur no earlier than when three "small" stars appear in the sky. There are varying opinions as to how much time elapses following sunset until this occurs. Ya'akov Ahimeir ( he, יעקב אחימאיר; born July 21, 1938), is a senior Israeli journalist, and a television and radio personality. Early life Ya'akov Ahimeir was born in Ramat Gan in 1938, the son of the Revisionist Zionist leader Abba Ahimeir. He was named after Ya'akov Raz, a fighter in one of the Israel's pre-state Jewish undergrounds, who died after he had intentionally infected his own wounds in order not to be caught by the British secret police, and also Shlomo a'akovBen-Yosef, known as the first of the Olei Hagardom. He grew up in Jerusalem and graduated from "Dvir" gymnasium. He earned a degree in history and political science from Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Breaking news, interchangeably termed late-breaking news and also known as a special report or special coverage or news flash, is a current issue that broadcasters feel warrants the interruption of scheduled programming or current news in order to report its details. Its use is also assigned to the most significant story of the moment or a story that is being covered live. It could be a story that is simply of wide interest to viewers and has little impact otherwise. Many times, breaking news is used after the news organization has already reported on the story. Current affairs is a genre of broadcast journalism in which major news stories are discussed at length in a timely manner. This differs from regular news broadcasts that place emphasis on news reports presented for simple presentation as soon as possible, often with a minimum of analysis.
