Riyadh Region
The Riyadh Province ( ar, منطقة الرياض '), also known as the Riyadh Region, is a region of Saudi Arabia, located in the geographic center of the country. It has an area of and with a 2017 population of 8,216,284, it is the second-largest region by both area and population, behind the Eastern Province and Mecca Region respectively. The capital governorate of the province is the Riyadh Governorate and it is named after the capital of the kingdom, Riyadh, which is the most populous city in the region and the kingdom, with a little less than two-thirds of the population of the region residing within the city. The province was governed for nearly five decades by Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz from 1963 to 2011. Other populous cities in the region include Al Ghat, Zulfi and Majma'ah. The Provinces of Saudi Arabia, also known as Regions, and officially the Emirates of the Provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (), are the 13 first-level administrative divisions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dhruma
Dhurma or Darma ( ar, ضرما) is a small town located by road northwest of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is the center of the small Dhurma Governorate of Riyadh Province, and had a population of 10,267 people according to the 2004 census. It lies in the wide Al-Batin valley, which it shares with its larger twin, Muzahmiyya. History The town appears in the 7th century poetry of Jarir as "Qarma" or "Garma", and is also mentioned by the same name in Yaqut's encyclopedia. Al-Sulayyil
Al Sulayyil ( ar, السليل) or As Sulayyil is a village in Ar Riyad Province, Saudi Arabia. The city is located about 575 km South of Riyadh city proper and 80 km North-East of Wadi ad-Dawasir, another relatively larger city. It has a size of about 25 square kilometers and a population of nearly 26,000. The landscape is that of typical desert and climate is extremely arid. The summer temperature between mid-June to mid-August may reach up to 50 degrees Celsius. Al-Muzahmiyyah
Al-Muzahmiyya ar, المزاحمية) is one of the fastest-growing towns in Riyadh Province, Saudi Arabia. It is located by road southwest of Riyadh, on the important Riyadh-Mecca Highway. As of the 2004 census it had a population of 24,224 people. It lies in a wide valley known as Wadi Al-Batin, and was founded in the 16th century as a colony of small independent farms and estates that later joined together to form one village. It is currently part of Al-Muzahmiyya Governorate. Al Majma'ah
Al Majma'ah ( ar, المجمعة) is a city and a governorate in Ar Riyad Province, Saudi Arabia. It is located at around , and it is the capital of the Sudair region. The city has an area of 30,000 square kilometres. The population of the town is around 45,000, while the population of the governorate as a whole is approximately 97,349. Al-Majma'ah Governorate borders the Eastern Province and Al-Qasim to the north, Thadig and Shaqra to the south, Rumah to the east, and Harmah, Al-Ghat and Zulfi to the west. 'Afif
Afif ( ar, عفيف ) is a city in central Saudi Arabia, in the Najd region. It is situated approximately halfway between Riyadh and Mecca. The modern town was established in the 1910s as a ''hijra'', or "settlement", for the nomadic tribes of the area, particularly the tribe of 'Utaybah (see Ikhwan). It has since grown into a small city of 39,581 as of the 2004 census, not counting the surrounding towns and villages, which together with 'Afif form the 'Afif Governorate. The city once served as a gateway between the central and western regions of Saudi Arabia.
