Rivo Rakotovao (born 12 May 1960) is a Malagasy politician who served as Acting President of Madagascar from 2018 to 2019. Rakotovao also served as President of the Senate of Madagascar. Acting President of Madagascar On September 7, 2018, President Hery Rajaonarimampianina submitted his resignation from the presidency, an act required by law in order to participate in the upcoming presidential election. Hery Martial Rajaonarimampianina Rakotoarimanana (; ; born 6 November 1958) is a Malagasy politician who was President of Madagascar from January 2014 to September 2018, resigning to run for re-election. Previously he served as Minister of Finance under President Andry Rajoelina, and he was the Rajoelina political movement's candidate in the 2013 presidential election. He won the vote in a second round, defeating Jean-Louis Robinson, the candidate of Marc Ravalomanana's party. Andry Nirina Rajoelina (Malagasy: ; born 30 May 1974) is a Malagasy politician and businessman who has been the president of Madagascar since 2019. He was previously president of a provisional government from 2009 to 2014 following a political crisis and military-backed coup, having held the office of Mayor of Antananarivo for one year prior. Honoré Rakotomanana (born 26 October 1933) is a Malagasy politician and judge. Beginning in 1995, he was the first Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), but was forced to resign in 1997 due to charges of incompetence. From February 2016 to November 2017, he was Speaker of the Senate of Madagascar. Career Rakotomanana was a judge in Madagascar prior to his appointment to the ICTR. Presidential elections were held in Madagascar on 7 November. As no candidate received a majority of the vote, a second round involving the top two candidates, Andry Rajoelina and Marc Ravalomanana, was held on 19 December. On 27 December Rajoelina was announced as the winner with 56% of the vote.
