Riverview Rural High School
Riverview Rural High School is a secondary school located in Coxheath, Nova Scotia, Canada, a suburb of Sydney, Nova Scotia. It is attended by approximately 1000 students in grades 9 to 12. The school falls under the jurisdiction of the Cape Breton – Victoria Regional Centre for Education, and is one of the two main high schools in the region, along with Sydney Academy. Red and white are the school's colours. History First opening in August 1950, Riverview Rural High School was built on the former site of the Keefe farm in Coxheath, and overlooks Sydney River, from which its name is derived. The annex building was added in 1951–52 to deal with a serious overcrowding problem. The business building was added in 1969 and the gymnasium and science labs were constructed in the 1980s. A new entrance was completed in 2007, with additional plans for a new library, computer labs, art room, and science labs in the coming years. Coxheath, Nova Scotia
Coxheath is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located north of the Sydney River in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality on Cape Breton Island. The community is home to Riverview Rural High School, a secondary school with approximately 900 students in Grades 10-12 and Coxheath Elementary. History After the fall of Louisbourg in 1758, Captain William Cox was left in charge of English soldiers in Sydney. In 1796 Cox obtained a grant of 1300 acres of farmland along the Spanish River where he had been living since 1790. English soldiers cleared the land, built a house, stable and barns. They then set up a grist mill and a road was built from his farm to the mill. Captain Cox lived on the farm with his wife and ran a successful grist mill and dairy farm. He named the land Cox's heath before returning to England in 1809. Craig Ferguson (ice Hockey)
Craig Malcolm Ferguson (born April 8, 1970) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He played 27 games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, and Florida Panthers between 1993 and 1999. He later spent several seasons playing in the Swiss Nationalliga A and Deutsche Eishockey Liga, and retired in 2006. Ferguson was drafted by the Canadiens in the seventh round, 146th overall in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Collegiate After graduating from Riverview Rural High School in 1988, Ferguson played four years of college hockey for the Yale University Bulldogs of the ECAC. At Yale, Ferguson lived at Calhoun College. Ferguson was one of the twelve players named to the 1988–1989 ECAC Hockey All-Rookie team.
