Riverside Park (Austin)
Riverside Park was a ballpark located in Austin, Texas, and was the home to many Austin teams starting in 1888 when the Austin Hix, the city's initial baseball team, combined with the Austin Red Sox to exist as the first edition of the Austin Senators. The ballpark was located southeast of Congress Avenue Bridge. The ballpark was also the site of the largest shutout in Texas League history, played on July 23, 1907, between the Austin Senators and the San Antonio Bronchos in the second game of a doubleheader. In the early 20th century, Austin and San Antonio were bitter rivals, and this was no exception. During the first game, an Austin baserunner who had overslid third base was tagged out but was called safe by the umpire; at the time, there was only one umpire, who made all calls. Austin Senators
The "Austin Senators" is the name of various minor league baseball teams based in Austin, Texas, United States which played on-and-off between 1898 and 1964. Different incarnations of the Senators have played in the Texas League (1888–1890, 1905, 1907–1908, 1911–1914, 1956–1967), Texas-Southern League (1896), South Texas League (1906) Middle Texas League (1915) and Texas Association (1925–1926). Texas League
The Texas League is a Minor League Baseball league which has operated in the South Central United States since 1902. It is classified as a Double-A league. Despite the league's name, only its five South Division teams are actually based in the state of Texas; the five North Division teams are located in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The league was founded in 1888 and ran through 1892. It was called the Texas Association in 1895, the Texas-Southern League in 1896, and again as the Texas League from 1897 to 1899. It was revived as a Class D league in 1902, moved to Class C in 1904 where it played through 1910 (except for 1906 as Class D again), played at Class B until 1920, and finally moved up to Class A in 1921. San Antonio Bronchos
The San Antonio Bronchos were a minor league baseball team based in San Antonio, Texas, that played in the South Texas League (1903–1906) and Texas League (1907–1919). The team was also known as the Mustangs (1903–04), Warriors (1905), and Aces (1919). The team won two league championships. The first was in the South Texas League in their inaugural season of 1903, under the guidance of manager Wade Moore. They won their second in 1908, while a member of the Texas League under managerGeorge Leidyand Pat Newnam. In the sport of baseball, a doubleheader is a set of two games played between the same two teams on the same day. Historically, doubleheaders have been played in immediate succession, in front of the same crowd. Contemporarily, the term is also used to refer to two games played between two teams in a single day in front of different crowds and not in immediate succession. For many decades, doubleheaders in Major League Baseball (MLB) were routinely scheduled numerous times each season. Forfeit (baseball)
In rare cases, baseball games are forfeited, usually when a team is no longer able to play. Although not uncommon in baseball's early days, forfeits are now rare. There have been only five forfeits in Major League Baseball (MLB) since 1954; the last forfeit was in 1995, and prior to that, 1979. Since 1914, there has only been one incident where a team deliberately made a decision to forfeit a game, by the 1977 Baltimore Orioles. Usage In the event of forfeiture in MLB, the score is recorded as 9–0, as stated in rule 2.00 of the ''Official Baseball Rules'' issued by the league. The 9–0 score equates to one run per each regulation game inning not played.
