Riverside Cemetery (Pawtucket, Rhode Island)
Riverside Cemetery is an historic cemetery at 752 Pleasant Street in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. It occupies a parcel of land about in size between Pleasant Street and the Seekonk River, and just north of the much larger Swan Point Cemetery in neighboring Providence. The cemetery was established in 1874, and is Pawtucket's instance of a rural cemetery. The cemetery's creation was championed by John W. Davis (1826–1907), a local politician who later served two terms as Governor of Rhode Island, and was for many years the cemetery's resident manager, living in the cemetery manager's house, which was built around the time of the cemetery's founding. Davis himself is buried there and the cemetery has been run by his descendants. The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Pawtucket is a city in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 75,604 at the 2020 census, making the city the fourth-largest in the state. Seekonk River
The Seekonk River is a tidal extension of the Providence River in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It flows approximately 8 km (5 mi). The name may be derived from an Algonquian word for skunk, or for black goose. The river is home to the Brown University men's rowing team, India Point Park, Blackstone Park, Crook Point Bascule Bridge, Narragansett Boat Club (the oldest rowing club in the country), Swan Point Cemetery, and the Bucklin Point waste-water treatment facility. Swan Point Cemetery
Swan Point Cemetery is a historic rural cemetery located in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. Established in 1846 on a 60-acre (0.24 km2) plot of land, it has approximately 40,000 interments. History The cemetery was first organized under the Swan Point Cemetery Company, with a board of trustees. In 1858, a new charter was developed to make the cemetery administration non-profit, and it was taken over by a group known as the Proprietors of Swan Point Cemetery. In 1886, landscape architect H.W.S. Cleveland was hired to redesign the area. It is a cemetery park with its design inspired by the landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted's Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
