Government Of Rivers State
The Government of Rivers State consists of elected representatives and appointed officials responsible for the government of Rivers State, Nigeria. Rivers State has a population of about 5 million people, and is one of the 36 states that make up the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The state government is composed of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, whose powers are vested by the Constitution in the House of Assembly, the Governor and the High Court. The judiciary operates independently of the executive and the legislature. At the local level, elected officials are in charge of local government areas. Executive The executive branch is headed by the Governor, assisted by the Deputy Governor, both elected. The Tide (Nigeria)
''The Tide'' is a Nigerian daily newspaper. It is the most widely circulated newspaper published in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and one of Nigeria's major newspapers. Owned and funded by the state, ''The Tide'' began printing operations on 1 December 1971 and has a digital version. Fire On 20 July 2012, a fire broke out in ''The Tide''s main building, damaging significant portions of the establishment, including the General Manager's office, Credit Control Unit, Administration General office and Board Room. Although no injuries or deaths were reported, much of the company's equipment and staff documents were destroyed. According to a statement from the General Manager Mr. Celestine Ogolo, the fire started at around 2.00a.m and quickly took over the highest floor of the building where his office was stationed. Rivers State, Nigeria
Rivers State, also known as Rivers, is a state in the Niger Delta region of southern Nigeria (Old Eastern Region). Formed in 1967, when it was split from the former Eastern Region, Rivers State borders include: Imo to the north, Abia and Akwa Ibom to the east, and Bayelsa and Delta to the west. The state capital, Port Harcourt, is a metropolis that is considered to be the commercial center of the Nigerian oil industry. Felicity Okpete Ovai
Felicity Okpete Ovai (born 1961) is an engineer and academic from Degema, Rivers State in Nigeria. A member of the Rivers State People's Democratic Party, she was the first woman to be appointed Commissioner of Works, serving from 2003 to 2006. Education Ovai completed her secondary education at Holy Rosary Secondary School (now Holy Rosary College) in Port Harcourt. She received a B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology and a Master of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Port Harcourt. Career Ovai has held various positions of responsibility in Rivers State. She served as first woman Commissioner of Works in the Executive Council of Rivers State from 2003 to 2006. Dakuku Adol Peterside is a Nigerian politician. He was formerly the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency since March 2016. Prior to his role at NIMASA, he was a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives. Early life and education Peterside was born in Biriye, Kingdom of Opobo, and grew up in Azumini, Aba in present-day Abia State, and in Kaduna and Port Harcourt at various times. Having graduated from Okrika Grammar School in 1986/87, he went to Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) in Port Harcourt, where he studied medical laboratory sciences, specializing in haematology and blood transfusion. Kelvin Kinikanwo Wachukwu is a Nigerian engineer who served as Rivers State Commissioner of Works from December 2015 to April 2016. He was suspended indefinitely from office for negligence, dereliction of duty, particularly his failure to supervise projects effectively. He was replaced by Harrison B. Iheanyichukwu on 9 May 2016.
