Riverdale Municipality is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. History The RM was incorporated on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RM of Daly and the Town of Rivers. It was formed as a requirement of ''The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. The Government of Manitoba initiated these amalgamations in order for municipalities to meet the 1997 minimum population requirement of 1,000 to incorporate a municipality. A rural municipality (RM) is a type of incorporated municipality in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Under the province's ''Municipal Act'' of 1997, an area must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a density of less than to incorporate as a rural municipality. Manitoba has 98 RMs, which had a cumulative population of 301,438 as of the 2016 Census. This is a decrease from 116 RMs prior to January 1, 2015, when municipalities with less than 1,000 people were directed by the provincial government to amalgamate with adjoining municipalities to comply with the ''Municipal Act''. Bradwardine, Manitoba
Bradwardine is a historical location northeast of Virden, Manitoba, in Riverdale Municipality. The Post Office was founded on 12-12-23W in 1884 and moved to 7-12-22W when the railway arrived about 1902. The name of Rowan was proposed by the first postmaster, John Parr. Ottawa opted for a character from the novel ''Waverley'' by Sir Walter Scott Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832), was a Scottish novelist, poet, playwright and historian. Many of his works remain classics of European and Scottish literature, notably the novels '' Ivanhoe'', '' Rob Roy' ..., the Baron of Bradwardine. Once a thriving village, Bradwardine disappeared after the Second World War II. It had suffered losses from two fires in the early 1900s. The railway and the school were both lost after the war. Rivers, Manitoba
Rivers is an unincorporated urban community in the Riverdale Municipality within the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is located northwest of Brandon, above sea level. It is within the Westman Region (Southwestern Manitoba). Agriculture, health and related businesses provide income for the community and area. Rivers has a population of 1,257 people in the 2016 census. History Rivers was named in 1908 after Sir Charles Rivers Wilson, Chairman of the Board of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. During the Second World War, Rivers became one of the sites in Canada which helped to fix the positions of German U-boats using high-frequency direction finding. This site, along with Portage la Prairie increased the "fix" accuracy on the U-boats. Rivers held town status prior to January 1, 2015.
