Bronx River Houses is a low-income public housing project in the Soundview section of the Bronx, New York City. It consists of nine buildings with 1,260 apartments. Completed February 28, 1951, the Bronx development is bordered by East 174th Street, Harrod, and Bronx River Avenues. Bronx River Houses is home to 3,025 residents. The project is patrolled by P.S.A. 8 located at 2794 Randall Avenue in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx. Bronx River Addition comprises two senior-only buildings, 6 and 12 stories tall with 225 apartments. The Galena Hotel, originally known as the Fox River House, is a historic hotel in Aurora, Illinois, Aurora, Illinois. It is the oldest hotel still standing in the city. History By the 1850s, Aurora was a major manufacturing and milling center in the Fox River (Green Bay tributary), Fox River valley. The Galena–Chicago trail, which carried stagecoaches from Chicago to northwestern Illinois, passed through town and provided a means of commerce. The first Fox River House was constructed in 1857 along this road for A. N. and G. Pierce. A fire destroyed the hotel in 1860. E. D. Huntoon purchased the vacant lot two years later to rebuild the hotel. The hotel was known as an important local gathering place. Huntoon ran the hotel for twenty-six years until selling it. River House is a co-op apartment building located at 435 East 52nd Street in Manhattan, New York City. History The 26-story River House was constructed in 1931 on the site of a former cigar factory and designed by William Lawrence Bottomley in the Art Deco style. Designed for cooperative ownership, the building featured 78 apartments with 12-rooms, 6 baths, and two fireplaces. Originally, the building featured a pier where residents could dock their yachts, but that amenity was lost with the construction of the FDR Drive. The building has a gated cobblestone courtyard featuring a fountain. During the Great Depression, residents defaulted on mortgage interest payments and the court ruled the property could be sold as a foreclosure in 1941. In 1948, the building was bought by Tishman Realty & Construction who wanted to split the suites into 170 smaller apartments. River House is a historic building in the city centre of York, in England. The building was constructed in 1868, as the Yorkshire Club. The Yorkshire Club had been founded in 1839, at 5 St Leonard's Place, and grew by absorbing the Yorkshire Union Hunt Club in 1856. With its larger membership, it decided to move to bigger, purpose-built premises, on a prominent site on the south side of Museum Street, next to Lendal Bridge. The site enabled it to have a private waterfront area on the River Ouse, which is now the Lendal Boatyard. Inside, there was a dining room, bar, billiards room, studies and bedrooms. The club closed some time after World War II, and was converted to offices. It was Grade II listed in 1971. By 1980, it housed Savills estate agents.
