Rivalry (film)
''Rivalry'' ( it, Rivalità, also known as ''Medico condotto'') is a 1953 Italian melodrama film. Written, produced and overseen by Roberto Rossellini, it marked the directorial debut of Giuliano Biagetti. The film was shot and set in Castiglione della Pescaia. Production The film is attributable to the trend of sentimental melodramas, commonly called tearjerking, at the time very popular among the Italian public, although frowned upon by contemporary film critics (who only in the seventies revalued these films, specifically coining the term neorealism of appendix). Giuliano Biagetti
Giuliano Biagetti (12 April 1925 – 29 March 1998) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. Life and career Born in La Spezia into a family of Pisan origins, Biagetti studied medicine at the university of Pisa, and during this time he founded the stage company "The brigade of Doctors", for which he wrote several comic-grotesque plays. He moved to Rome in the early fifties, and there he had some experience as a documentarist and as an assistant director of notable directors including Joseph Losey, Giorgio Ferroni, Giacomo Gentilomo and Roberto Rossellini, who produced and wrote the feature film debut of Biagetti, the melodrama '' Rivalità''. After a badly distributed second work Biagetti abandoned films, devoting himself to the production and direction of commercials. Edoardo Toniolo
Edoardo Toniolo (22 November 1907 - 31 December 1986) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Life and career Born in Turin, the son of the stage actors Antonio and Rosa Rosaz, at young age Toniolo debuted on stage in supporting roles. He later worked on radio, and in the mid-1930s he started appearing in films, usually in character roles. After the Second World War, and following his role as leading actor in Ferruccio Cerio's ''Posto di blocco'', Toniolo also started working as a dubber, and since 1954 he was also pretty active in television dramas. He was sometimes credited as Edward Douglas. Rosario "Saro" Urzì (24 February 1913 – 1 November 1979) was an Italian actor. He is best known for his roles in the films '' In the Name of the Law'' (1949), ''The Railroad Man'' (1956), '' Seduced and Abandoned'' (1964), which earned him a Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor, and ''The Godfather'' (1972).
