Rite Of Passage
A rite of passage is a ceremony or ritual of the passage which occurs when an individual leaves one group to enter another. It involves a significant change of status in society. In cultural anthropology the term is the Anglicisation of ''rite de passage'', a French term innovated by the ethnographer Arnold van Gennep in his work ''Les rites de passage'', ''The Rites of Passage''. The term is now fully adopted into anthropology as well as into the literature and popular cultures of many modern languages. Original conception In English, Van Gennep's first sentence of his first chapter begins: "Each larger society contains within it several distinctly separate groupings. ... In addition, all these groups break down into still smaller societies in subgroups." The population of a society belongs to multiple groups, some more important to the individual than others. ''Black Clouds & Silver Linings'' is the tenth studio album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released on June 23, 2009 through Roadrunner Records. It is the band's last album to feature drummer and founding member Mike Portnoy before his departure on September 8, 2010. The fifth season of the American comedy television series ''Scrubs'' premiered on NBC on January 3, 2006 and concluded on May 16, 2006 and consists of 24 episodes. For the first twelve episodes, two new episodes were broadcast back-to-back every Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. ET. Then NBC returned to broadcasting one new episode every week (at 9:00 p.m. ET), followed by a rerun. For the first three weeks of this, the rerun episode was a cast favorite episode, with available audio commentary tracks on NBC's website to accompany the episodes. Rites Of Passage (educational Program)
Rites of Passage is an African American History program sponsored by the Stamford, Connecticut US public schools. The program consists of an extra day of schooling on Saturday for 12 weeks, service projects, and a culminating educational trip to Gambia and Senegal, the ancestral homes of many African Americans. The highlight of the trip is a visit to Goree Island, and the Door of No Return. The Door of No Return symbolizes the last point of departure of African slaves being shipped to the Western Hemisphere. As Rodney Bass, the founder and director of the program describes it: By passing through "The Door of No Return" the students invalidate the legacy of slavery and reconnect with the ancestral heritage, linking their past to their present. The ''Transsexual News Telegraph'' was a quarterly news and topics magazine published in United States from 1991 to 2002. ''TNT'' covers often portrayed Trans Identities or Art and the back covers were usually a piece of graphic art with a thought provoking theme. ''TNT'' originally was published as ''Rites of Passage'', the official publication of the New Womens Conference, with Anne Ogborn as the editor. It began as a magazine for the then nascent post op movement. After two issues the magazine came under the editorship of Gail Sondegaard, changed its name to ''Transsexual News Telegraph'', and ceased being officially tied to the New Womens Conference. ''TNT'' continued to be published approximately quarterly until 2002. In 1999 Katherine Collins joined the paper as Art Director.
