Adele Ritchie
Adele Ritchie (December 21, 1874 – April 24, 1930) was an American prima donna of comic opera and star of Edwardian musical comedies and vaudeville. Her career began in the early 1890s and continued for nearly twenty-five years. She killed a friend, then herself in a murder–suicide. Early life and career Ritchie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Quaker parents of French descent and, by the age of three, the step-daughter of Jacob Benclift Pultz, founder of the J.B. Pultz Company. She attended the Catholic girl’s preparatory school, Villa Maria Academy (Malvern, Pennsylvania), Villa Maria Academy at Malvern, Pennsylvania, Malvern, and made her first stage appearance as a singer in a production of a French comedy entitled ''The Isle of Champagne'' at Miner's Fifth Avenue Theatre on June 5, 1893. Greg Ritchie
Gregory Michael Ritchie (born 23 January 1960) is a former Australian international cricketer who played in 30 Tests matches and 44 One Day Internationals between 1982 and 1987. Ritchie played for Queensland between 1980 and 1992. He scored 10,170 runs in his first class cricket career at an average of 44.21 including 24 centuries and 54 fifties. In the year 2000 he was named as one of the seven greatest Sheffield Shield run scorers in Queensland history for amassing over 6,000 runs for his state. International career Ritchie was affectionately known as "Fat Cat" due to his burly build. He was selected for Australia's 1982-83 tour of Pakistan as a middle-order batsman replacement for Greg Chappell. He scored his first century, 106 not out, in his second Test at Faisalabad. Gordon Ritchie
William Gordon Ritchie (27 September 1918 – 20 November 1998) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He studied MB ChB medicine at the University of St Andrews School of Medicine. He was a surgeon and physician by career. Ritchie represented the Dauphin electoral district where he won office in the 1968 federal election. Rear-Admiral George Stephen Ritchie CB DSC (30 October 1914 – 8 May 2012) was a British admiral noted for his cartographic and hydrographic work. Naval career Ritchie was born in Burnley, 1914, of Scottish parents, Sir Douglas Ritchie and Lady Margaret Stephen Ritchie. He was educated at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth from the age of 13, from where he went to sea at the age of 17. In 1936 he joined the Surveying Service, being appointed to the old coal-burning surveying ship, , operating in the South China Sea. During the Second World War the then Lieutenant Ritchie was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) for bravery whilst surveying beaches in North Africa behind the enemy lines. Sir George Ritchie KCMG (14 December 1864 – 7 August 1944) was a South Australian politician. During his parliamentary career he held every ministerial position and was a minister in both Houses, a feat rarely equalled. History Ritchie was the third son of Captain James Ritchie (1832 – 23 April 1881) and his wife Alison (12 August 1829 – 20 February 1913). Captain James Ritchie, and five others left Scotland for Australia in the early 1850s sailing the ''Lioness'', a 75-ton River Mersey steamer for Captain Cadell, then became a shipowner trading on the River Murray and Murrumbidgee, when his name was as familiar as those of William Randell and Cadell. One of his feats was to captain the ''Gundagai'', a river boat of 129 feet length, to New Zealand with gold to finance the Maori war. Edward Samuel Ritchie (1814–1895), an American inventor and physicist, is considered to be the most innovative instrument maker in nineteenth-century America, making important contributions to both science and navigation. Early life and career Ritchie was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on August 18, 1814, the son of John and Elizabeth Eliot Ritchie. As a young child Ritchie displayed a great aptitude for both the arts and mechanical sciences. After working as an amateur sculptor, he founded a business in 1850 with N.B. Edgar Gowar Ritchie (15 July 1871–23 July 1956) was a hydraulic engineer who worked for the Melbourne & Metropolitan Board of Works for the majority of his career. He was the engineer of water supply from 1908 until his retirement in 1936. In this role he was responsible for the construction of the Maroondah, O'Shannassy and Silvan reservoirs and their associated aqueducts.
