Rita W. Harlan
Rita W. Harlan (about 1873 – May 31, 1933), born Sarah R. Wolff, was an American actress on stage and in silent film, head of the Rita Harlan Stock Company. Career Harlan was head of the touring Rita Harlan Stock Company in 1906 and 1907. Members of the company included Duncan Penwarden, Inda Palmer, and Russian actor Theodore Lorch, who was her co-star in a 1906 production of ''Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde''. Her son Kenneth Harlan was also a member of her company, and sometimes acted opposite her, as her husband, brother, or even as her father. "My mother invariably played the little country girl who faced the perils of a big city," he recalled. She appeared in George M. Cohan's ''Seven Keys to Baldpate'' in San Francisco, in a 1915 production starring Cyril Scott. Kenneth Harlan
Kenneth Daniel Harlan (July 26, 1895 – March 6, 1967) was an American actor of the silent film era, playing mostly romantic leads or adventurer types. Early life Harlan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of George W. Harlan and actress Rita W. Harlan (born Sarah Wolff). He was a graduate of Saint Francis High School in Brooklyn, New York City, and Fordham University in the Bronx. Career At age seven, Harlan began acting on stage and working in vaudeville. He spent much of 1916 touring with a company of dancers that headlined future Ziegfeld performer Evan-Burrows Fontaine. His career spanned 25 years and included 200 features and serials, Harlan first entered the motion picture world in 1916 as the leading man under D.W. Griffith. Walburga Oesterreich ( Korschel; 1880 – April 8, 1961), nicknamed "Dolly" and "Queen of Los Angeles", was a German-born American housewife, married to a wealthy textile manufacturer Fred William Oesterreich (December 8, 1877 – August 22, 1922), who gained notoriety for the shooting death of her husband and the subsequent bizarre revelation that she had kept her lover, Otto Sanhuber, hidden in the attic of the home she shared with her husband for ten years. Otis Harlan
Otis Harlan (December 29, 1865 – January 21, 1940) was an American actor and comedian. He voiced Happy, one of the Seven Dwarfs in the Disney animated film ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs''. Early years Harlan was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1865. He married Nellie Harvey and had a daughter named Marion. Harlan was the uncle of the silent film era leading man, Kenneth Harlan. Career In 1893, he appeared in Victor Herbert's ''The Magic Knight''. He was playing in vaudeville shows by 1911, appearing in Irving Berlin's ragtime musicals. Harlan also played the role of Cap'n Andy in the first, part-talkie film version of "Show Boat" (1929). He was also seen as the Master of Ceremonies in the sound prologue that accompanied the film. Cyril Scott (actor)
Cyril Scott (February 9, 1866 – August 16, 1945) was an Irish-born stage and film actor who spent most of his career in the United States. Long on the stage, Scott first appeared on stage in the U.S. at Paterson, New Jersey and later appeared in the companies of Mrs. Fiske, Lotta Crabtree and Richard Mansfield. In 1900 he appeared in ''The Casino Girl'' and was in musicals with De Wolf Hopper. He entered silent films in 1913, appearing in Augustus Thomas's film adaptation of his play '' Arizona''. He appeared in only a handful of movies before his last in 1932. He was a member of both the Lambs and Players Clubs. ''Seven Keys to Baldpate'' is a 1913 play by George M. Cohan based on a novel by Earl Derr Biggers. The dramatization was one of Cohan's most innovative plays. It baffled some audiences and critics but became a hit, running for nearly a year in New York, another year in Chicago and receiving later revivals; Cohan starred in the 1935 revival. Cohan adapted it as a film in 1917, and it was adapted for film six more times, and later for TV and radio.
