Rita Gallagher
Rita Gallagher (September 1, 1921 – ), a founding member of the Romance Writers of America, was a noted writing instructor of romance novels. She also wrote three women's historical fiction novels from 1982 to 1986. Biography Rita Gallagher was born September 1, 1921. She was crowned Miss Michigan at age nineteen, and married a U.S. Air Force pilot, her second husband, in 1949. She is the mother of the writer Rita Clay Estrada from her first marriage, and two sons, Jeffrey and Gregory, from her second. Gallagher and her daughter, along with romance novelists Parris Afton Bonds, Sondra Stanford, and Peggy Cleaves created the Romance Writers of America (R.W.A.), holding its first-ever conference in 1981 at The Woodlands, Texas. A novelist is an author or writer of novels, though often novelists also write in other genres of both fiction and non-fiction. Women's Fiction
Women's fiction is an umbrella term for women centered books that focus on women's life experience that are marketed to female readers, and includes many mainstream novels or women's rights books. It is distinct from women's writing, which refers to literature written by (rather than promoted to) women. There exists no comparable label in English for works of fiction that are marketed to men. The Romance Writers of America organization defines women's fiction as, "a commercial novel about a woman on the brink of life change and personal growth. Her journey details emotional reflection and action that transforms her and her relationships with others, and includes a hopeful/upbeat ending with regard to her romantic relationship." Rita Clay Estrada
Rita Clay Estrada (born July 31, 1941, in Michigan, US) is a US writer of romance novels as Rita Clay, Tira Lacy and Rita Clay Estrada, she has also written non-fiction books about writing romance novels. Romance Writers Of America
Romance Writers of America (RWA) is an American non-profit writers' association founded in 1980. Its mission is to "advance the professional and common business interests of career-focused romance writers through networking and advocacy and by increasing public awareness of the romance genre." Relevant works must be themed around the development of a romantic relationship between two people, and there must be a happy ending. As well as published authors, those with complete but unpublished manuscripts are eligible for membership. Miss Michigan
The Miss Michigan competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Michigan in the Miss America pageant. Michigan has won the Miss America crown on five occasions. Melissa Beyrand of Milford was crowned Miss Michigan 2022 on June 18, 2022 at Frauenthal Theatre in Muskegon. Parris Afton Bonds
Parris Afton Bonds is an American historical romantic fiction novelist. She is the co-founder of Romance Writers of America. Bonds started her professional writing career in the early 1970s with her first sale to ''Modern Secretary'' magazine, and in 1981 ''Time'' magazine called Bonds one of the many women who supplement their family income by writing romance novels. Her predominant genre is historical romance, but her works include other genres such as westerns, murder mysteries, sagas, and international thrillers.
