Rising Star Independent School District
Rising Star Independent School District is a public school district based in Rising Star, Texas (USA). Located in Eastland County, very small portions of the district extend into Brown and Comanche counties. On February 23, 2023, the Rising Star school board was reportedly prepared to accept the resignation of superintendent Robby Stuteville. In January 2023, Stuteville, who was allowed to carry a handgun under current Texas law, left his weapon in a restroom stall where it was discovered by a student. Rising Star is a town in Eastland County, Texas, United States. Its population as of the 2010 census was 835. Geography Rising Star is located in southwestern Eastland County at (32.096260, –98.966074). U.S. Route 183 passes through the town, leading north to Cisco and south to Brownwood. Texas State Highway 36 crosses US-183 in the center of town, leading southeast to Comanche and west to Cross Plains. Eastland, the county seat, is to the north and east via US-183 and Interstate 20. Eastland County is a county located in central West Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 17,725. The county seat is Eastland. The county was founded in 1858 and later organized in 1873. Brown County is a county in west-central Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,095. Its county seat is Brownwood. The county was founded in 1856 and organized in 1858. It is named for Henry Stevenson Brown, a commander at the Battle of Velasco, an early conflict between Texians and Mexicans. The Brownwood, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area includes all of Brown County. History Indigenous peoples lived here for thousands of years before Europeans entered the area. Comanche County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in Central Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 13,594. The county seat is Comanche. The county was founded in 1856 and is named for the Comanche Native American tribe. History Among the first inhabitants of present-day Comanche County were the Comanche Indian tribe. Six-man Football
Six-man football is a variant of gridiron football played with six players per team, instead of the standard 11 or 12. It is generally played by high schools in rural areas of the United States and Canada. History Six-man football was developed in 1934 by Stephen Epler in Chester, Nebraska, as an alternative means for small high schools to field a football team during the Great Depression. The first game was played on Thursday, September 27, 1934, at the Hebron, Nebraska Athletic Gridiron, under the lights, with a crowd of almost 1000 watching. This game was played so that coaches all over Kansas and Nebraska could see if they wanted to try this new game of six-man. The two teams playing in the game were the combined team from Hardy-Chester ("Hard-Chests") and a combined team from Belvidere-Alexandria ("Belvalex").
