Rising Again
''Rising Again'' is an expanded version of the 1990 live album ''Rising'' from Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan. It was released in the UK (Pilot PLO 59) on 22 May 2001. History Throughout the 1990s, numerous reissues and edited versions of Donovan's 1990 live album ''Rising'' appeared. None of these versions contained the original title or artwork, and many did not have the original track order. After over ten years of these releases, Pilot Records acquired the rights to the songs from ''Rising'' in the UK. Instead of simply reissuing ''Rising'', Pilot Records recognized that the rights to the Mellow Records songs also gave them access to numerous unreleased live recordings recorded by Donovan in the 1980s. They titled the subsequent release of these tracks ''Rising Again'' in recognition of the original album, and added eleven previously unreleased tracks taken from the same concerts. Donovan
Donovan Phillips Leitch (born 10 May 1946), known mononymously as Donovan, is a Scottish musician, songwriter, and record producer. He developed an eclectic and distinctive style that blended folk, jazz, pop, psychedelic rock and world music (notably calypso). He has lived in Scotland, Hertfordshire (England), London, California, and—since at least 2008—in County Cork, Ireland, with his family. Emerging from the British folk scene, Donovan reached fame in the United Kingdom in early 1965 with live performances on the pop TV series ''Ready Steady Go!''. Having signed with Pye Records in 1965, he recorded singles and two albums in the folk vein for Hickory Records, after which he signed to CBS/Epic in the US—the first signing by the company's new vice-president Clive Davis—and became more successful internationally. Universal Soldier (song)
"Universal Soldier" is a song written and recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie. The song was originally released on Sainte-Marie's debut album ''It's My Way!'' in 1964. "Universal Soldier" was not an immediate popular hit at the time of its release, but it did garner attention within the contemporary folk music community. It became a hit a year later when Donovan covered it, as did Glen Campbell. ''Barabajagal'' is the seventh studio album and eighth album overall from British singer-songwriter Donovan. It was released in the United States on 11 August 1969 ( Epic Records BN 26481 (stereo)), but was not released in the United Kingdom because of a continuing contractual dispute that also prevented '' Sunshine Superman'', ''Mellow Yellow'', and ''The Hurdy Gurdy Man'' from being released in the UK. History While the majority of the ''Barabajagal'' sessions took place in November 1968, "Happiness Runs" and "Where Is She" were recorded the previous May. All of these songs except "Atlantis", "I Love My Shirt" and "To Susan on the West Coast Waiting" were shelved while '' Donovan's Greatest Hits'' was still high in the charts. ''Essence to Essence'' is the eleventh studio album, and thirteenth album overall, from British singer-songwriter Donovan. It was released in both the UK (Epic SEPC 69050) and the US (Epic KE 32800) in December 1973. History By late 1973, Donovan abandoned the style of glam rock featured on his ''Cosmic Wheels'' album earlier that year. Andrew Loog Oldham was brought in (replacing Mickie Most) to co-produce Donovan's next album, which would highlight the subdued style of his previous work. Many of the songs were released on '' Live in Japan: Spring Tour 1973'', but that album was not released outside Japan. In a clear sign of Donovan's waning popularity, ''Essence to Essence'' became the third Donovan album after '' H.M.S. ''What's Bin Did and What's Bin Hid'' is the debut album from Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan. It was released in the UK four days after his nineteenth birthday on 14 May 1965, through Pye Records (catalog number NPL 18117). Terry Kennedy, Peter Eden, and Geoff Stephens produced the album. The album was released in the US as ''Catch the Wind'' on Hickory Records in June 1965. Hickory Records changed the title to match that of Donovan's debut single. History In late 1964, Peter Eden and Geoff Stephens offered Donovan a recording contract with Pye Records in the UK. Donovan had performed around Britain and had become well known in British folk circles before his record contract. ''A Gift From a Flower to a Garden'' is the fifth album from Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan, and marks the first double-disc album of his career and one of the first box sets in folk music. It was released in the US (Epic Records L2N 6071 (monaural) / B2N 171 (stereo)) and the UK in December 1967 (Pye Records NPL 20000 (monaural) / NSPL 20000 (stereo)). At the same time, Epic Records also released each of the two records from ''A Gift From a Flower to a Garden'' as separate stand alone albums in the US. The first record was released as ''Wear Your Love Like Heaven'', and the second record was released as ''For Little Ones''. ''7-Tease'' is an album by the British singer-songwriter Donovan. It was released in the US (Epic PE 33245) in November 1974 and in the UK (Epic SEPC 69104) in January 1975. The album peaked at No. 135 on the ''Billboard'' 200. History After the low chart success of ''Essence to Essence'', Donovan entered the studio in late 1974 with a different producer and a new set of songs. The songs were originally intended for use as part of an operetta about the preceding 10 years of Donovan's life and times. Some of the songs on ''7-Tease'' feature lyrical lines or melodies from earlier Donovan songs. "Season of the Witch" is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan released in August 1966 on his third studio album, '' Sunshine Superman''. The song is credited to Donovan, although sometime collaborator Shawn Phillips has also claimed authorship. Because of a dispute with Donovan's record company, a UK edition with the song was not released until June 1967. Composition and recording "Season of the Witch" was recorded at the CBS studios in Hollywood, California, where most of ''Sunshine Superman'' was recorded. According to Donovan, he and Phillips wanted a "rock-combo sound" for the song and chose some local musicians from the local clubs.
