Rise Above (JK Flesh Album)
''Rise Above'' is the second studio album by JK Flesh, a moniker of English musician Justin Broadrick, and was released digitally and on vinyl on 3 June 2016 through the label Electric Deluxe under the designation EDLX.048. It is Broadrick's fourth release under the JK Flesh title and continues the sparse, drum and bass style of ''Nothing Is Free'', the EP released a year earlier. Composition Inspired by Broadrick's childhood in industrial Birmingham, ''Rise Aboves sound is characterized by heavy distortion, kinetic beats, and noisy production. In keeping with the JK Flesh evolution, nearly all elements of industrial metal are gone from this album and replaced with starker, more synthetic sounds. JK Flesh
JK Flesh is a moniker of English musician Justin Broadrick employed for his solo work within electronic music. Broadrick's usage of the title spans back to his work in the 1990s with Kevin Martin in Techno Animal, but he first released a solo studio album as JK Flesh in 2012. Unlike Broadrick's most well-known projects, Godflesh and Jesu, his work as JK Flesh is electronic and (apart from ''Posthuman'') lacks metal riffs. Industrial music is a genre of music that draws on harsh, mechanical, transgressive or provocative sounds and themes. AllMusic defines industrial music as the "most abrasive and aggressive fusion of rock and electronic music" that was "initially a blend of avant-garde electronics experiments (tape music, musique concrète, white noise, synthesizers, sequencers, etc.) and punk provocation". The term was coined in the mid-1970s with the founding of Industrial Records by members of Throbbing Gristle and Monte Cazazza. Heathen Harvest
Heathen Harvest was an Internet blog devoted to music criticism, music news, and interviews. It focused on underground and post-industrial music, including ambient, heavy metal, gothic, and industrial music. The site, which was established in 2003, was one of the longest-running webzines of its kind and has been dubbed "one of the leading online magazines for post-industrial music" and "the internet's foremost authority on neofolk." Surgeon (musician)
Anthony Child (born 1 May 1971), better known as Surgeon, is an English electronic musician and DJ. Child releases music on his own labels Counterbalance and Dynamic Tension. Established imprints, such as Tresor, Soma, and Harthouse, have also released Surgeon's original material and remixes. He has also been recognized as one of the first wave of DJs to use Ableton Live and Final Scratch to supplement his DJ sets. History Child grew up in Kislingbury, in Northamptonshire, England. In 1989, he moved to Birmingham to study audio-visual design, where he played in a jazz/rock/fusion band called Blim, and learned to DJ from friend Paul Damage. Andy Stott
Andy Stott is a British electronic musician and producer, living in Manchester. Biography His debut album was ''Merciless'' in 2006, and was followed by ''Unknown Exception'' (2008) and ''Luxury Problems'' in 2012. ''Passed Me By'' (2011) marked a significant change in Stott's sound; it has none of the elements of his previous dub techno release, opting for a much more bass-heavy sound. Stott has undertaken several productions under the moniker Andrea and these works were released on Daphne, a sublabel of Modern Love. Jesu (pronounced ''"yay-zoo"'') are a British experimental metal band formed in 2003 by Justin Broadrick following the breakup of his band Godflesh. It shares its name with the last song on ''Hymns'', the final album of Godflesh's initial run. Jesu's sound is heavily layered and textured, incorporating a diverse mix of influences. Godflesh
Godflesh are an English industrial metal band from Birmingham. The group formed in 1982 under the title Fall of Because but did not release any complete music until 1988 when Justin Broadrick (guitar, vocals and programming) and G. C. Green ( bass) renamed the band and decided to use a drum machine for percussion. Melding heavy metal with industrial music and later with electronic music and dub, Godflesh's sound is widely regarded as a foundational influence on other industrial metal and post-metal acts and as significant to both experimental and extreme metal.
