Ripe (Banderas Album)
''Ripe'' is the only studio album by English female pop music duo Banderas, released in 1991. It features the single "This Is Your Life", which reached number 16 in the UK Singles Chart, plus the follow-up single "She Sells", which reached number 41. A third single, "May This Be Your Last Sorrow", failed to chart. The album includes an appearance from singer Jimmy Somerville, providing backing vocals on the track "Why Aren't You in Love With Me?"; Banderas band members Caroline Buckley and Sally Herbert had been backing musicians with Somerville's band The Communards. Johnny Marr from The Smiths and Bernard Sumner from New Order provide guitar on "This Is Your Life", with Sumner also doing backing vocals. Critical reception In a retrospective review for AllMusic, William Cooper gave ''Ripe'' three out of five stars, describing the album as "addictive ear candy" and that band member Caroline Buckley sings "with confidence and clarity." Banderas (duo)
Banderas were a British female duet (music), music duo of the early 1990s who were signed to London Records. The band was an offshoot of Jimmy Somerville's band The Communards, and featured two of his female backing musicians, Scottish vocalist Caroline Buckley and English violinist/keyboardist Sally Herbert. The duo are mostly remembered for their hit single "This Is Your Life", which peaked at No. 16 in the UK Singles Chart in March 1991. The track was co-written with songwriter Roger Swallow and contains Sampling (music), samples of the song "Crack Attack" by Grace Jones from her 1989 album ''Bulletproof Heart''. The duo appeared on BBC One's ''Top of The Pops'' on 21 March 1991 to perform the song. The duo's album, ''Ripe (Banderas album), Ripe'', peaked at No. 40 in the UK Albums Chart, and featured further singles "She Sells" (No. 41) and "May This Be Your Last Sorrow" (which did not chart). Roger Swallow
Roger Swallow (born 23 February 1946 in Northampton, England) is an English producer, musician and songwriter. He was a member of The Albion Band and worked with many artistes in the late 1960s/early 1970s as a session and touring drummer/percussionist. Early career Starting his music career in rock and roll and rhythm and blues in Northampton, his early music projects brought him to London where he worked in children's television for the BBC and toured England playing for theatrical companies, before working for the Beatles' Apple Publishing on Baker Street in the late 1960s and forming Smile with Denis Couldry (also featuring musicians Chris Spedding and Mark Griffiths), recording for Decca Records. Audrey Riley
Audrey Riley is an English cellist and string arranger, based in the UK. Career Riley trained at the Guildhall School of Music with Leonard Stehn. She was a cellist for Virginia Astley from 1983 to 1986 and a one-time auxiliary member of The Family Cat. She has been a member of the post-minimalist band Icebreaker since 1989, and a frequent indie session artist. Stevie Vann (born Stevie van Kerken), also known as Stevie Lange, is a Zambian singer and vocal coach. She is best known for her work as a backing vocalist and studio singer for many groups and solo performers in the 1970s and 1980s. Luís Alberto Figueira Gonçalves Jardim (born 4 July 1950) is a Portuguese percussionist, born in the Madeira Island, best known for his work with producer Trevor Horn.
