Rio Grande Valley FC, also known as RGVFC or Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, is an American semi-professional soccer team based in Edinburg, Texas operated by Lone Star, LLC. They joined the USL Championship in the 2016 season. The team served as a hybrid affiliate of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer. Chris Canetti, Houston Dynamo president, called the relationship "an important and necessary step." The hybrid affiliation, a first for the USL, means that the Dynamo will be responsible for the soccer operation of the club, selecting players and coaching staff. The ownership group, Lone Star, will be responsible for operations and day-to-day management of the club. H-E-B Park is a soccer-specific stadium in Edinburg, Texas. It serves as the home of Rio Grande Valley FC Toros of the USL Championship, the second level of the US/Canadian professional soccer pyramid. Rio Grande Valley Football Club is affiliated with the Houston Dynamo, of Major League Soccer. The stadium has two stands with orange seats covered with a roof and a capacity of 9,735. The stadium was originally intended to be complete before the 2016 USL season. Toros played C.F. Monterrey from Mexico on March 22, 2017 to inaugurate their new stadium.. 2019 USL Championship Season
The 2019 USL Championship season is the ninth season of the USL Championship and third under Division II sanctioning. This is the first season in which the league is operating under the name "USL Championship," having used the name "United Soccer League" through 2018. The season began on March 8, 2019, and concluded on October 20, 2019; with each team playing 34 matches. 36 teams competed in the 2019 USL Championship season, split into 2 conferences of 18 teams each. Louisville City FC are the two-time defending USL Cup champions. The 2019 season is the last for the current version of Nashville SC. Rafael Amaya (soccer)
Rafael Amaya (born September 21, 1965) is a retired Colombian-American soccer defender who spent two seasons in Major League Soccer, five in the American Professional Soccer League, at least five in the National Professional Soccer League and at least two in the USISL. Player Amaya was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and spent his youth in the United States earning 1983 New York City High School Player of the Year recognition. He then attended Long Island University where he majored in business and communications. In 1987 and 1988, he played in the Colombian First Division. In 1991, he joined the expansion Colorado Foxes in the American Professional Soccer League. He would go on to play five seasons with the Foxes. By the time he signed with Colorado, he may have been playing in the National Professional Soccer League. Gerson Echeverry (born August 25, 1971) is an American retired soccer forward who played professionally in Major League Soccer, USISL and the National Professional Soccer League. Player Youth Echeverry was born in Paterson, New Jersey. In 1990, he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School where he had scored 55 goals during his high school soccer career.
