Light Rail Transit (Singapore)
The Light Rail Transit (LRT) is a series of localised automated guideway transit systems acting as feeder services to the heavy rail Mass Rapid Transit, which together forms the core of Singapore's rail transport services. The first LRT line was opened in 1999 and the system has since expanded to three lines, each serving a public housing estate, namely Bukit Panjang LRT line, Sengkang LRT line and Punggol LRT line. Trains on these lines have at least one station interchange link to the MRT. Bukit Panjang LRT Line
The Bukit Panjang LRT line (BPLRT) is a automated guideway transit line in Bukit Panjang, Singapore. The BPLRT is the only LRT line operated by SMRT Trains. As the name suggests, it serves 13 stations in the neighbourhood of Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang. The line is the first LRT line in Singapore and was opened on 6 November 1999 by Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan. It is a fully elevated and automated people mover system. The line uses Innovia APM 100 C801 and C801A rolling stock supplied by Bombardier, running in a two-car formation. The line is infamous for its frequent breakdowns and plans have been made to overhaul the system. History The idea of Bukit Panjang LRT was first pitched in 1991 before the government announced in 1994 that it would pilot the system there. Bukit Panjang is a planning area and residential town located in the West Region of Singapore. A portion of this town is situated on a low-lying elongated hill. The planning area is bounded by Bukit Batok to the west, Choa Chu Kang to the northwest, Sungei Kadut to the north, the Central Water Catchment to the east and Bukit Timah to the south. Bukit Panjang New Town is located at the northern portion of the planning area. Bukit Panjang has an average elevation of 36m/118 ft. The town is categorised into seven subzones, namely Jelebu, Bangkit, Fajar, Saujana, Senja, Dairy Farm and Nature Reserve. Admiralty is a subzone of the planning area of Sembawang, in the north of Singapore. Overview The Admiralty area contains integrated development plans including Kampung Admiralty, which was launched in April 2014. The community centre for the neighbourhood, named "ACE The Place Community Club", is located at 120 Woodlands Avenue 1 near Woodlands South MRT station. It was officially opened on 2 March that year, replacing a void deck space at Block 547, Woodlands Drive 16 which had been in use since 2003.
