''Riley of the Rainbow Division'' is a 1928 American silent war comedy film directed by Bobby Ray and starring Creighton Hale, Al Alt and Pauline Garon.Munden p.644 In Britain, it was released under the alternative title of ''Flappers in Khaki''. Synopsis Following America's entry into World War I, two friends enlist as doughboys. However, their fiancées decide they want to marry them before they go off to war and enter their training camp in disguise. They end up accompanying them to Europe where they become embroiled with German spies. Bobby Ray (actor)
Bobby Ray (born Wilhelm Robert McBain Fuehrer, October 6, 1899 – March 26, 1957) was an American film comedian of the silent era. He appeared in more than sixty short films between 1914 and 1927, including a group from the mid-1920s featuring Oliver Hardy. He was originally a child actor.Roots p.365 In addition he directed six short films and two feature films ''Riley of the Rainbow Division'' and ''Dugan of the Dugouts'' (both 1928). Following the arrival of sound, Ray developed a new career as an assistant director that continued into the 1950s. Doughboy was a popular nickname for the American infantryman during World War I. Though the origins of the term are not certain, the nickname was still in use as of the early 1940s. Jack Raymond (actor)
Jack Raymond (1886–1953) was an English actor and film director. Born in Wimborne, Dorset in 1886, he began acting before the First World War in '' A Detective for a Day''. In 1921 he directed his first film and gradually he wound down his acting to concentrate completely on directing - making more than forty films in total before his death in 1953. He was associated with the Hepworth Studios of Walton on Thames, since his portrait appears on a studio publicity postcard when he was probably in his early twenties. He had a major success in 1930 with '' The Great Game'', one of the earliest films devoted to football and followed it up with '' Up for the Cup'' a year later. He remade '' Up for the Cup'' in 1950. Rolfe Sedan (born Edward Sedan; January 20, 1896 – September 15, 1982) was an American character actor, best known for appearing in bit parts, often uncredited, usually portraying clerks, train conductors, postmen, cooks, waiters, etc. Early life Born Edward Sedan in New York City, his mother was a Broadway theatre fashion designer and his father an orchestra conductor. Career Sedan began his career in show business as a vaudeville and nightclub performer and began acting in East Coast theatre. Sedan debuted on Broadway in 1916 and appeared in his first motion picture for Metro Pictures Corporation in 1921. In 1922 and 1923, Sedan was a featured actor with the Leith-Marsh Players in El Paso, Texas.
