Riley S. Young
Riley S. Young (September 25, 1860June 28, 1952) was an American pharmacist, banker, and Republican politician. He was the 47th speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly (1919–1923) and represented Walworth County. Biography He was born in Sharon, Wisconsin. He graduated from high school in Delavan, Wisconsin in 1879. On April 11, 1888, he married Elizabeth Williams. Young eventually worked for the Hartford Fire Insurance Company. Young died at the age of 91. Political career Young was first elected to the Assembly in 1916. He would later be chosen as Speaker for the 1919 and 1921 sessions. The Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly is the presiding officer of the Wisconsin State Assembly, the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Article IV of the Constitution of Wisconsin, ratified in 1848, establishes the legislature and specifies the election of officers. The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Darien is a town in Walworth County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,651 at the 2020 census. The Village of Darien is located within the town. The unincorporated community of Bardwell is located in the town. The unincorporated communities of Allen's Grove and Fairfield are also located partially in the town. Delavan is a city in Walworth County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,505 at the 2020 census. It is located southwest of Milwaukee. The city is located partially within the Town of Delavan, but the two entities are politically independent. Delavan is home to Delavan Lake which brings in a large number of tourists each year, and is also close to Lake Geneva, another popular tourist destination. History Origins Delavan sits in the middle of what was once an inland sea. During the last Ice Age, the final glaciation, named the Michigan tongue, covered this region. John Lasarus Williams (29 October 1924 – 15 June 2004), known as John L, was a Welsh nationalist activist. Williams was born in Llangoed on Anglesey, but lived most of his life in nearby Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. In his youth, he was a keen footballer, and he also worked as a teacher.
