Ridgefield is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It consists of the primary central village in the town of Ridgefield and surrounding residential areas. As of the 2020 census, the population of the CDP was 7,596, out of 25,053 in the entire town. Geography The CDP is in the southern part of the town of Ridgefield and extends south to the border with the town of Wilton. To the east the CDP border follows Nod Road, Branchville Road, Cooper Hill Road, Harvey Road, Ridgewood Road, Florida Hill Road, and Ridgefield Brook. The northern boundary of the CDP follows Copps Hill Road, Maple Shade Road, Saw Mill Hill Road, Mulberry Street, Ramapoo Road, and a short section of Barry Avenue. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a theater located in Ridgefield, Connecticut, with a capacity of 500. It hosts a variety of entertainment events such as the showing of films, plays or musical performances. History The Ridgefield Playhouse was opened in December 2000 with a performance by guitarist Jose Feliciano. It was remodeled from the old Ridgefield High School's auditorium which was designed in the 1940s by Cass Gilbert Jr. He was the son of Cass Gilbert, architect of Supreme Court Building and the Woolworth Building. Ridgefield Township, New Jersey
Ridgefield Township was a township that existed in Bergen County, New Jersey. The township was created in 1871, when Hackensack Township was trisected to form Palisades Township in the northernmost third, Englewood Township in the central strip and Ridgefield Township encompassing the southernmost portion, stretching from the Hudson River on the east to the Hackensack River, with Hudson County to the south. Much of the area had been during the colonial area known as the English Neighborhood. As described in the 1882 book, ''History of Bergen and Passaic counties, New Jersey,'' In 1878, the New Jersey Legislature provided for the formation of a borough within a township not exceeding four square miles. Battle Of Ridgefield
The Battle of Ridgefield was a battle and a series of skirmishes between American and British forces during the American Revolutionary War. The main battle was fought in the village of Ridgefield, Connecticut, on April 27, 1777. More skirmishing occurred the next day between Ridgefield and the coastline near Westport, Connecticut. On April 25, 1777, a British force landed between Fairfield and Norwalk (now Westport) under the command of New York's Royal Governor Major General William Tryon. They marched to Danbury, where they destroyed Continental Army supplies after chasing off a small garrison of troops. Word spread concerning the British troop movements, and Connecticut militia leaders sprang into action.
