Roderick "Ricky" McLean (born 8 November 1947) is a former Australian rules football player who played in the VFL between 1966 and 1971 for the Carlton Football Club and between 1972 and 1974 and again in 1976 for the Richmond Football Club. McLean coached Sunshine in the 1980 VFA season. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. Michael Roach Medal
The Michael Roach Medal is an Australian rules football award given each season to the leading goalkicker (or goalkickers) for the Richmond Football Club. The award is now named in honour of Michael Roach, Richmond's "best post-war full forward". Roach won the goalkicking award at Richmond on seven occasions; in 1980 kicked the highest individual season goal tally in Tiger history and became only the second Richmond full forward to kick over 100 goals in a season; and was the first Richmond player to win the VFL/AFL goalkicking award twice (Jack Riewoldt winning it for the second time in 2012). Richmond's best pre-war full forward, Jack Titus, led the goalkicking at Richmond on eleven occasions. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Sunshine Football Club (VFA)
Sunshine Football Club, nicknamed The Crows, was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1959 until 1989. The club colours were navy blue and white. History Formed in 1938 as the Sunshine Districts Football Club the club had to differentiate from the Sunshine Football Club that was competing in the Victorian Sub Districts Football League. The original Sunshine went into recess after the 1940 season. The district club managed to remain viable during the war (WWII) competing in the Footscray District League . The 1980 Victorian Football Association season was the 99th season of the top division of the Australian rules football competition, and the 20th season of second division competition. The Division 1 premiership was won by the Port Melbourne Football Club, after it defeated Coburg in the Grand Final on 21 September by eleven points; it was Port Melbourne's 13th Division 1 premiership, the first of three premierships won in a row between 1980 and 1982, and the fourth of six premierships won in nine seasons from 1974 until 1982. Rod McLean
Roderick Findlay McLean (22 October 1915 – 14 September 1979) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the VFL. He is the father of Richmond and Carlton footballer Ricky McLean. A ruckman, McLean was a premiership player with Carlton in 1938 and 1945. Late in the 1942 season he was found guilty of disputing the decisions of a field umpire, abusive language and unseemly conduct during a game which resulted in a 16 games suspension.
