Richard David Smith (born March 13, 1948) is a former American college football coach. Rick Smith is an American football executive. He served as the general manager of the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL) from 2006 to 2017. Smith also served as the team's executive vice president of football operations from 2012 to 2017. Smith began his executive career with the Denver Broncos in 2000 and served as their director of pro personnel for six seasons. Early years Smith played for the Purdue Boilermakers as a strong safety from 1988 to 1991. He graduated from that institution, where he served as a coach. After this stint, he coached for a month at Texas Christian University before going to the NFL. Richard Allan Smith (born June 29, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played from 1968 until 1981 in the National Hockey League (NHL) and the World Hockey Association (WHA). He won the Stanley Cup in 1970 with the Boston Bruins. Playing career Smith was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round (7th overall) in the 1966 NHL Amateur Draft. He played in Boston from 1968–69 to 1971–72. Boston traded him in 1972 to the California Golden Seals of the NHL. He played there until the end of the next season ( 1972–73) when he left the NHL for the World Hockey Association (WHA) and played for the Minnesota Fighting Saints. In 1975–76 Smith returned to the NHL to play for the St. Louis Blues. He would remain with the Blues until the 1976–77 NHL season when he returned to the Boston Bruins. Rick Smith (born 1968) is a Canadian author, environmentalist and non-profit leader. He is currently the President of the Canadian Climate Institute. Smith became President in 2021. Early life and education Smith was born in Montreal, Quebec, and attended high school in Richmond Hill, Ontario. He received his Ph.D. in biology in 1999 from the University of Guelph. His research, completed in cooperation with the Cree community of Whapmagoostui, in Nunavik, northern Quebec, focused on a unique population of freshwater harbor seal. Smith's work led to the population's listing as “endangered” under Canada's Species At Risk Act and IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Richard Smith (born 25 May 1959) is a Welsh musician and composer. He is a founding member of British electronic music group Underworld and an acclaimed composer, having collaborated extensively with director Danny Boyle, most notably as the musical director for the London 2012 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony, alongside Underworld's Karl Hyde. He is also a founding member of the multi-discipline design and film collective Tomato. Career Smith left a bank clerk job in Llanelli to do an electronic and electrical engineering degree; however, he dropped out during his finals after being asked to join Hyde’s band The Screen Gemz.
