Area code 251 is a telephone numbering plan code covering southwestern Alabama serving Mobile, Baldwin, and Washington counties and parts of six other counties. It was created on June 18, 2001, as a split from area code 334. In order to allow people time to reprogram electronics such as computers, cell phones, pagers and fax machines, use of the 334 area code continued in the 251 areas through January 7, 2002. Prior to October 2021, area code 251 had telephone numbers assigned for the central office code 988. Elm Bluff Plantation
Elm Bluff is a historic former forced-labor farm and plantation house in the rural community of Elm Bluff, Dallas County, Alabama, United States. Situated on a bluff high above the Alabama River, the now near-ruinous house is considered by architectural historians to be one of the most refined and unusual Greek Revival-style houses in the state. History Elm Bluff was established around 1840 by John Jay Crocheron, who enslaved up to 200 people to work his land. A lifelong bachelor, Crocheron was born on August 21, 1795, in Richmondtown, Staten Island, New York. He was the son of John Crocheron and Johanna Houseman, both French Huguenots. After his father died, Crocheron moved to Alabama. He was elected as one of 12 directors for the Bank of Alabama during the 1820s, when the bank was located in Cahaba. Street Manual Training School
The Street Manual Training School was a historic African American school in Richmond, Dallas County, Alabama. The campus comprised over , but most of it was sold after the school closed in 1971. The remaining campus contains seven buildings constructed between 1906 and 1964 as well as a circa 1943 water tower. The school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 28, 1999. School The school was founded in 1904 by Emmanuel M. Brown. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
