Richard Wyndham-Quin, 6th Earl Of Dunraven And Mount-Earl
Richard Southwell Windham Robert Wyndham-Quin, 6th Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl, (18 May 1887 – 28 August 1965) was an Irish peer. The son of Windham Wyndham-Quin, 5th Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl, he succeeded to the Earldom in 1952 on the death of his father. Biography Lord Dunraven fought in World War I where he was wounded and mentioned in despatches. He gained the rank of Captain in the 12th Royal Lancers and was awarded the Military Cross (MC). Dunraven was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1921 and Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in 1923. Marriages and children Lord Dunraven married firstly Helen Lindsay Swire on 20 October 1915. They had no children and were divorced in 1932. Colonel Windham Henry Wyndham-Quin, 5th Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl (7 February 1857 – 23 October 1952) was an Irish Peer, British Army officer and a Conservative Member of Parliament for South Glamorganshire 1895–1906. Background He was the son of Captain Hon. Windham Henry Wyndham-Quin (1829–1865), a younger son of Windham Quin, 2nd Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl, by his wife Caroline Tyler, daughter of Rear-Admiral Sir George Tyler. John Beresford, 8th Marquess Of Waterford
John Hubert de la Poer Beresford, 8th Marquess of Waterford (14 July 1933 – 11 February 2015) was an Irish peer. He succeeded to the marquessate in 1934. He was educated at Eton, and later served as a lieutenant in the Royal Horse Guards' Supplementary Reserve. Biography A highly skilled horseman, Lord Waterford rode the first of his many point-to-point winners while still at Eton, and he went on to become the youngest-ever member of the Irish Turf Club. From 1960 to 1985, he was captain of the All-Ireland Polo Club and its highest handicap player. For 12 years (1960–72) he was a member, at both medium and high-goal levels, of the Duke of Edinburgh's Windsor Park team, which won the British open championship for the Cowdray Park Gold Cup twice, and on another occasion the high-goal Warwickshire Cup. Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl (usually referred to as Earl of Dunraven) was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created on 5 February 1822 for Valentine Quin, 1st Viscount Mount-Earl. Quin had already been created a Baronet, of Adare in County Limerick, in the Baronetage of Ireland, in 1781, Baron Adare, of Adare in the County of Limerick, on 31 July 1800, and Viscount Mount-Earl on 3 February 1816. He was made Viscount Adare in 1822 at the same time as he was given the earldom. The latter peerage titles were also in the Peerage of Ireland. The Quins were unusual among Irish landowning families in that era in being of Gaelic origin, although they married into Anglo-Irish families like the Widenhams of Kildimo and the Dawsons of Dublin. His son, the second Earl, represented County Limerick in the House of Commons from 1806 to 1820 and also sat in the House of Lords as an Irish Representative Peer from 1839 until his death in 1850. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I of Great Britain, George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved Bathing#Medieval and early-modern Europe, bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements.
