Richard W. Parker
Richard Wayne Parker (August 6, 1848 – November 28, 1923) was an American Republican Party politician from New Jersey who represented the 6th congressional district from 1895 to 1903, the 7th district from 1903 to 1911, and the 9th district from 1914 to 1919 and again from 1921 to 1923. He was a grandson of James Parker, also a Representative from New Jersey. Biography Born in Morristown, he graduated from Princeton College in 1867 and from Columbia Law School in 1869. He was admitted to the bar of New Jersey in 1870 and commenced practice in Newark. He was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly in 1885 and 1886 and was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the Fifty-third Congress. Parker was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-second and to the seven succeeding Congresses, holding office from March 4, 1895 to March 3, 1911. The New Jersey General Assembly is the lower house of the New Jersey Legislature. Since the election of 1967 (1968 Session), the Assembly has consisted of 80 members. Two members are elected from each of New Jersey's 40 legislative districts for a term of two years, each representing districts with average populations of 232,225 (2020 figures), with deviation in each district not exceeding 3.21% above and below that average. To be eligible to run, a potential candidate must be at least 21 years of age, and must have lived in their district for at least one year prior to the election, and have lived in the state of New Jersey for two years. Allan Langdon McDermott (March 30, 1854 – October 26, 1908) was an American Democratic Party politician who represented from 1900 to 1903, and the from 1903 to 1907. Early life McDermott was born in South Boston, Massachusetts, on March 30, 1854, to a Scottish family. He attended the local schools, and was trained as a printer. He worked as a newspaper reporter for several years, and then began to study law with Leon Abbett. He graduated from the law department of University of the City of New York (now New York University School of Law). He was admitted to the bar in November 1877, and commenced practice in Jersey City, New Jersey. Career McDermott was corporation attorney for Jersey City from 1879-1883. William Hughes (Senator)
William Hughes (April 3, 1872January 30, 1918) was an American politician of Irish origin. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in both houses of the United States Congress as the U.S. representative for New Jersey's 6th congressional district from 1903 to 1905 and again from 1907 to 1912 and a United States senator from New Jersey from 1913 to 1918. Biography Hughes was born in Drogheda, Ireland and immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1880. They settled in Paterson, New Jersey. His first jobs were as a stenographer in New York City and a court reporter in Paterson.
