Richard Stanbury
Richard James Hardy Stanbury (May 2, 1923 – July 21, 2014) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. Stanbury was a Senator from February 1968 to May 1998 who also served as president of the Liberal Party of Canada from 1968 to 1973. Before his appointment to the Senate on the advice of Lester Pearson in February 1968, Stanbury was a lawyer and organizer for the Presbyterian Church in Canada. He became active in Liberal politics and was the riding association president in York Centre in the early 1960s and later became president of the Toronto and York Liberal Association, served on the National Liberal Campaign Committee and chaired the National Policy Committee of the Liberal Party. Shortly after being summoned to the Senate, Stanbury was elected president of the Liberal Party at the same convention that selected Pierre Trudeau as party leader. Queen's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel (Post-nominal letters, post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen regnant, queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Technically appointed by the monarch of the country to be one of 'His [Her] Majesty's Counsel learned in the law', the position originated in England and Wales. In archival science, a fonds is a group of documents that share the same origin and that have occurred naturally as an outgrowth of the daily workings of an agency, individual, or organization. An example of a fonds could be the writings of a poet that were never published or the records of an institution during a specific period. Fonds are a part of a hierarchical level of description system in an archive that begins with fonds at the top, and the subsequent levels become more descriptive and narrower as one goes down the hierarchy. The level of description goes from fonds to series to file and then an item level. However, between the fonds and series level there is sometimes a sub-fonds or sous-fonds level and between the series to file level there is sometimes a sub-series level that helps narrow down the hierarchy. Gildas Molgat
Gildas Laurent Molgat, CD (January 25, 1927 – February 28, 2001) was a Canadian politician. He served as leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party from 1961 to 1969, and was subsequently appointed to the Senate of Canada, where he served as Speaker from 1994 until 2001. He died shortly thereafter. The son of Louis F. Molgat and Adele Abraham, Molgat was born in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba. He was educated at Ste. Rose School and the University of Manitoba. He worked as a manager for Bethel-Rennie Ltd. United Stores and Advance Credit Corporation, and served as an army captain in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. He was married to Allison Malcolm. John Lang Nichol, (January 7, 1924 – February 24, 2020) was a Canadian politician who served as a senator from 1966 to 1973. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, he was president of the Liberal Federation of Canada for two terms from 1964 until 1968 and served as co-chairman of the Liberal Campaign Committee for the 1968 federal election. The Senate of Canada (french: region=CA, Sénat du Canada) is the upper house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the House of Commons, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada.
