Richard Patten
Richard Andrew Patten (May 13, 1942 – December 30, 2021) was a Canadian politician. Patten was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1987 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 2007. He represented the riding of Ottawa Centre. He served as a cabinet minister in the government of David Peterson. Personal life Patten was educated at Sir George Williams University in Montreal. He worked as a manager with the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), and served as President of the ''Canadian Council for International Cooperation''. Patten sat on an NGO advisory committee to the World Bank while with the CCIC. He died on December 30, 2021, at the age of 79. Politics In the 1987 provincial election, Patten ran as the Liberal candidate in the riding of Ottawa Centre. He defeated incumbent New Democrat Evelyn Gigantes by just over 2,000 votes. Ottawa Centre (provincial Electoral District)
Ottawa Centre is an urban provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1968. While the riding's boundaries (mainly to the south and west as the north and east borders have remained the Ottawa River and Rideau Canal, respectively) have changed over the years to account for population changes, the riding has always comprised the central areas of Ottawa, the nation's capital. Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), also known as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, is a group of blood cancers that includes all types of lymphomas except Hodgkin lymphomas. Symptoms include lymphadenopathy, enlarged lymph nodes, fever, night sweats, weight loss, and tiredness. Other symptoms may include bone pain, chest pain, or itchiness. Some forms are slow-growing while others are fast-growing. Lymphomas are types of cancer that develop from lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. Risk factors include immunodeficiency, poor immune function, autoimmune diseases, Helicobacter pylori infection, ''Helicobacter pylori'' infection, hepatitis C, obesity, and Epstein–Barr virus infection. Elisabeth Arnold
Elisabeth Arnold (born 1959 in Ottawa) was an Ottawa City Councillor who represented Somerset Ward from 1994 to 2003. One of her accomplishments on council was spearheading the rebuilding of the Plant Recreation Centre. Arnold graduated from Lisgar Collegiate Institute and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Geography from Simon Fraser University and a Master's in Urban Planning from Queen's University. From 1979 to 1984 she was a member of the Canadian national canoe team. From 1986 to 1988 she was the coordinator for Housing Help, which provided help for people in regard to housing needs. The 1999 Ontario general election was held on June 3, 1999 to elect members of the 37th Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, Canada. The governing Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, led by Premier Mike Harris, was re-elected to a second majority government. Dalton McGuinty
Dalton James Patrick McGuinty Jr. (born July 19, 1955) is a former Canadian politician who served as the 24th premier of Ontario from 2003 to 2013. He was the first Liberal leader to win two majority governments since Mitchell Hepburn nearly 70 years earlier. In 2011, he became the first Liberal premier to secure a third consecutive term since Oliver Mowat after his party was re-elected in that year's provincial election. McGuinty was born in Ottawa. Dwight Duncan (born 3 January 1959) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1995 to 2013 who represented ridings of Windsor—Walkerville, Windsor—St. Clair and Windsor—Tecumseh.
