Dick Owens
Richard Lemon Owings (1812–1902), more commonly known as "Richard Owens" or "Dick Owens", was a pioneer of the American West who played an important role in John C. Fremont's third expedition to the Great Basin and California. He is best known as a frequent companion and close friend of Kit Carson. The Owens Valley, Owens River, and Owens Lake in eastern California were all named after him by Fremont, even though Owings apparently never visited any of them. Biography Owings was born in Owings Mills, Maryland, and grew up near Zanesville, Ohio before going west in 1834 with Caleb Wilkins. His adventures with Carson and Fremont took place in the years between then and 1850. Around 1850 he returned to his family near Marion, Indiana, and in 1854 married Emily Miller. He moved to Iowa during the Civil War and then to Circleville, Kansas in 1872, living there until he died in 1902. He and Emily had four sons, three of whom survived him. Richard Owens (1831 – 24 December 1891) was a Welsh architect, working mostly on urban housing in Liverpool, England and on the construction of chapels in Wales. Background Owens was born at Plas Bell, Y Ffôr, Pwllheli, the eldest son of Griffith Owens, a carpenter. After a period of primary education, he learned the carpenter's craft with his father and at the age of twenty, he went to Liverpool to work as a clerk and then as foreman to John Jones, a builder, in Everton. John Jones emigrated to the United States of America and Owens moved to Williams & Jones, Castle Street, Liverpool to a company that bought rural land around the old town of Liverpool to sell for housing developers. His main duties for Williams and Jones were to measure land and design plans. Richard Owens (bishop)
Richard Owens (4 January 1840 – 1909) was a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Clogher, Ireland. Dr. Owens was born in Clogher, County Tyrone. He was born at Aghavea on 4 January 1840; and educated at St Macartan's College, Monaghan and St Patrick's College, Maynooth. After curacies at Maguiresbridge and Donagh he was on the staff of St Patrick's, Maynooth. Later he served as Dean and Professor of Dogmatic Theology in Maynooth College. He was appointed the Roman Catholic Bishop of Clogher on 6 July 1894, following the death of his predecessor, James Donnelly. He was ordained that same year. Bishop Owens was a supporter of the Gaelic League and other Nationalist campaigns. He died in office in 1909 having served as bishop of his diocese for almost fifteen years. Richard Owens (August 6, 1973) is an American poet. Known also for his work as a publisher and critic, he is founding editor of the literary journal ''Damn the Caesars'' and co-founder of the left-wing punk band Those Unknown. His poetic work appears in several volumes, including ''Delaware Memoranda'' (2008), ''No Class'' (2012), ''Ballads'' (2012; 2015), and the collected volume ''Poems'' (2019). A number of his literary essays, most of which earlier appeared in scholarly and small press publications, are included in the collection ''Sauvage: Essays on Anglophone Poetry'' (2019). Richard Owens (born November 4, 1980) is a former American football tight end. The Minnesota Vikings acquired him as an undrafted free agent in 2004. He played college football at Louisville. Owens was also a member of the St. Louis Rams and New York Jets. Early years As a defensive lineman at Middleburg High School, Owens was a first-team All-Area tight end and second-team All-Area. Owens caught 19 passes for 242 yards and recorded 46 tackles and four sacks as a senior, as well as averaging 14 yards per catch, had 51 tackles, three sacks and four blocked kicks as a junior.
