Richard Molyneux (c. 1368 – 27 December 1397), of Sefton, Lancashire, was an English politician. Family Molyneux was the eldest son and heir of Sir William Molyneux of Sefton who died in 1372. His mother was Agnes Hoghton, daughter of MP Sir Adam Hoghton of Hoghton. Agnes was the widow of Sir Thomas Banaster. Molyneux's second wife was Ellen, daughter of MP, Sir Robert Urswyk, by whom he had two sons and one daughter. Sir Richard Molyneux, 1st Baronet
Sir Richard Molyneux, 1st Baronet (1560–1622) was a member of parliament for Lancashire, Mayor of Liverpool and Receiver-General of the Duchy of Lancaster. Life Molyneux was the son of William Molyneux and his wife Bridget Caryll. His grandfather, Sir Richard Molyneux (1528–1568), was MP for Liverpool from 1562 to 1571. He was educated at University College, Oxford. In 1581, Molyneux was appointed by substitution MP of Wigan, replacing Sir Edward Fitton and knighted in 1586. In 1588–89, he was Mayor of Liverpool and in 1588 and 1596 High Sheriff of Lancashire. He was knight of the shire (MP) for Lancashire in 1584, 1593 and 1604. He held the office of Receiver-General of the Duchy of Lancaster from 1607. He was created Baronet Molyneux in 1611. On his death, he was buried in Sefton parish church. Richard Molyneux, 1st Viscount Molyneux
Richard Molyneux, 1st Viscount Molyneux (1594–1636) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1629. Biography Molyneux was the son of Sir Richard Molyneux, 1st Baronet of Sefton and his wife Frances Gerard, the daughter of Sir Gilbert Gerard and Anne Ratcliffe. He matriculated at Brasenose College, Oxford on 24 November 1609, at the age of 15. He was knighted on 27 March 1613. In 1614, he was elected Member of Parliament for Wigan. He held the office of Receiver-General of the Duchy of Lancaster from 1616. He succeeded to the Molyneux baronetcy as the 2nd Baronet on the death of his father on 8 February 1622. In 1625 and 1628 Molyneux was elected MP for Lancashire. On 22 December 1628 he was created Viscount Molyneux by King Charles I (taking his seat in the Irish House of Lords on 4 November 1634). Richard Molyneux, 2nd Viscount Molyneux
Richard Molyneux, 2nd Viscount Molyneux of Maryborough, (about 1617–1654) was a Royalist officer in the English Civil War Biography Richard Molyneux was the son of Richard Molyneux, 1st Viscount Molyneux and Mary, daughter of Sir Thomas Caryll of Bentone, Sussex. He was born around 1630 and he inherited his title on his father's death in 1636. He married Lady Frances Seymour, but they had no children. On 20 June 1642 Molyneux attended the commission of array on Preston Moor, and assisted in the seizure of the magazine at Preston. On the outbreak of the Civil War, he raised two regiments, one of horse and the other of foot, composed chiefly of Roman Catholics, for the service of the king, forming part of the Lancashire forces under the command of James Stanley, 7th Earl of Derby. Molyneux was present at the siege of Manchester in September 1642, and on 20 April 1643 was defeated by Captain Ashton at Whalley.
