Richard Merlini
Richard Merlini (born January 27, 1965 in Montreal, Quebec) is a politician from Quebec, Canada. He was an Action démocratique du Québec member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Chambly from 2007 to 2008. Merlini holds a bachelor's degree in political science and history from Concordia University. Merlini worked for Premcor Ltee, a commercial printing company in Saint-Lambert as a clerk, a board member and the vice-president (production sector) for 26 years. Merlini was also a candidate in Saint-Lambert in the 1990 municipal elections and in La Prairie in 2003. He was also involved with the Montreal South Shore Chamber of Commerce and the business association of La Prairie. He also coached a local soccer team in La Prairie since 2001. Until 2003, he was a Liberal supporter. In 2006, he was named the vice-president of the ADQ. Merlini was first elected in the 2007 election with 39% of the vote. Saint-Lambert, Quebec
Saint-Lambert () is a city (french: ville) in southwestern Quebec, Canada, located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, opposite Montreal. It is part of the Urban agglomeration of Longueuil of the Montérégie administrative region. It was home to 21,861 people according to the Canada 2016 Census. Saint-Lambert is divided into two main sections: the original city of Saint-Lambert and the Préville neighbourhood. The original city of Saint-Lambert (as it existed prior to 1969) is located from the Country Club of Montreal golf course to the border of the Le Vieux-Longueuil borough. The Parti Québécois (; ; PQ) is a sovereignist and social democratic provincial political party in Quebec, Canada. The PQ advocates national sovereignty for Quebec involving independence of the province of Quebec from Canada and establishing a sovereign state. 2007 Quebec General Election
The 2007 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on March 26, 2007 to elect members of the 38th National Assembly of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party led by Premier Jean Charest managed to win a plurality of seats, but were reduced to a minority government, Quebec's first in 129 years, since the 1878 general election. The Action démocratique du Québec, in a major breakthrough, became the official opposition. The Parti Québécois was relegated to third-party status for the first time since the 1973 election. La Prairie, Quebec
La Prairie is an off-island suburb ( south shore) of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, Canada, at the confluence of the Saint-Jacques River and the Saint Lawrence River in the Regional County Municipality of Roussillon. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 23,357. History French Jesuits were the first Europeans to occupy the area, which was named La Prairie de la Magdelaine but was also called François-Xavier-des-Prés. The land was given to the Jesuits by Jacques de La Ferté and the Company of One Hundred Associates in 1647. It is in La Prairie that the story Kateri Tekakwitha took place. In 1668, the site was named Kentaké, the Iroquois name for "at the prairie".
