Richard John McCormack (born July 20, 1947) is an American political figure in the state of Vermont. A Democratic Party (United States), Democrat, He represented the three-member at-large Windsor County, Vermont, Windsor County district in the Vermont Senate from 1989 to 2003. In 2006, he was again elected to the State Senate, and he has been reelected every two years from 2008 to 2018. Early life Richard "Dick" McCormack was born in New York City on July 20, 1947, a son of John Houghton McCormack and Irene Cecile (Tuohy) McCormack. He was raised and educated in New York City, and graduated from Bayside High School (Queens), Bayside High School in Queens in 1965. McCormack graduated from Hofstra University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in U.S. History and moved to Bethel, Vermont later that year. McCormack studied Secondary Education at Castleton University, Castleton State College from 1977 to 1978 and received a Master's degree in Environmental Law from Vermont Law ...

The Vermont Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Vermont. From the time of the American Civil War until the 1960s, Vermont was an almost exclusively Republican state, with Republicans dominating Vermont politics, especially the governorship, from 1854 to 1960. However, perhaps inspired by the election of John F. Kennedy as president in 1960, Vermont Democrats have since staged a resurgence in state politics.
