Richard Lloyd (Cardigan Politician)
Richard Lloyd (c. 1703 – 16 July 1757), of Mabws, Cardiganshire, was a Welsh Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1730 to 1741. Lloyd was the eldest son of Erasmus Lloyd of Mabws, Cardiganshire, and his wife Jane Pryse, daughter of Thomas Pryse of Glanfraed, a nephew of Lewis Pryse. He was admitted at Lincoln's Inn on 14 April 1720. He married a daughter of Edward Games of Tregaer, Breconshire. Lloyd was returned on petition as a Whig Member of Parliament for Cardigan Boroughs on 7 May 1730. He was re-elected at the 1734 British general election. He voted with the Administration in all recorded divisions except that on the repeal of the Septennial Act, when he voted against them. Rick Lloyd is a British composer and musical director best known as a member of the original Flying Pickets who had a Christmas number one hit in 1983 with a cover of Yazoo's " Only You". Although the Flying Pickets are known for making a cappella covers of other people's songs, the original songs on their 1984 album '' Lost Boys'' were written by Rick Lloyd including the track " Wide Boy". Biography and career Lloyd was born in London in 1947, during his time at Aberystwyth University, he joined the Welsh-language four-piece rock band Y Blew of which he was the lead guitarist. From 1971–1973, he was signed as writer to United Artistes Music (London). In 1981, he collaborated with the author Sue Townsend on a musical based on the life of Daniel Lambert. Richard Lloyd Racing (RLR), originally named GTi Engineering, was a British auto racing team created in 1977 by driver Richard Lloyd. Originally named for the Volkswagen Golf GTIs that Lloyd raced in the British Saloon Car Championship (BSCC), they went on to become a successful Porsche privateer in the World Sportscar Championship (WSC). Richard Lloyd Racing eventually folded at the end of the 1990 season due to the increased cost of the World Championship. The team was also known for their extensively modified Porsche 956s and 962Cs, developed to overcome some problems in the original Porsche design and construction. The cars, all named ''GTi'' after the team, were able to outperform their standard counterparts. Richard Lloyd (18 February 1945 – 30 March 2008) was a British racing car driver and founder of multiple sports car and touring car teams. He drove in multiple championships himself, including the British Saloon Car Championship and the World Endurance Championship. Life and career Initially Lloyd worked for Decca Records from 1964 to 1970, during which time he became interested in racing after competing in a Triumph TR4A during 1967. He later formed his own public relations business, ''Motor Race Relations'', in 1971, while continuing his own driving duties, during which time he won multiple events in the British Saloon Car Championship. He went on to form ''GTi Engineering'' in 1978, running Volkswagen Golf GTIs and Audi 80s. Richard Lloyd (born October 25, 1951) is an American guitarist and songwriter, best known as a founding member of the rock band Television. Early life Lloyd first became interested in music as a small child. He saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show and experienced the phenomenon of Beatlemania, later going on to follow the British Invasion back to its roots in Blues and Jazz. Lloyd attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City. In his early teens, he studied drums with William Kessler, who was the ghostwriter for Cozy Cole, one of the famous big-band drummers. The Cardigan District of Boroughs was a parliamentary constituency in Wales which returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and its predecessors, from 1542 until it was abolished for the 1885 general election. Richard John Lloyd FRSE DLitt (1846-1906) was a British linguist and phoneticist. He researched the acoustics of vowel sounds and articulation, which he deemed “minute phonetics”. His field of work did not become popular until the late 20th century, around 100 years after his original work. Life He was born in Liverpool on 14 October 1846, into the well-established family business of Richard Lloyd & Brothers. At first entering the family business, he only attended university later in life, graduating from the University of London in 1875 with a BA. In 1890 the university awarded him an honorary doctorate (DLitt). In 1897 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His proposers were John Gray McKendrick, Alexander Buchan, James Thomson Bottomley and Magnus Maclean.
