Richard Lang is the Chairman, co-founder, and CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Democrasoft, Inc. Biography Lang is a pioneer in the technology industry, having been the co-inventor of the world's first, patented, dual-deck VCR (videocassette recorder) in 1983, and co-founder of his first public company, Go-Video, Inc. In 1987, Lang invented (and later patented) a solution for efficiently delivering video and audio programs over electronic networks, in Burst mode (computing), "burst" mode, which created a foundation for today's video-on-demand and audio-on-demand systems. In 1990, he co-founded Explore Technology, which later became burst.com, to develop and license this technology. Beginning in 2005, Burst licensed "burst" mode media delivery and network optimization technology to Microsoft, Apple and other preeminent companies in the industry. Rick Lang
Richard P. "Rick" Lang (born December 12, 1953) is a Canadian curler from Thunder Bay, Ontario. He is a two-time World champion and three-time Brier champion representing Northern Ontario. He currently serves as a performance consultant for Curling Canada. Playing career Lang was runner up at the 1971 Canadian Junior Curling Championships as the lead on Doug Smith's team. He later played third with Brier champions Bill Tetley (1975), and Al Hackner (1982, 1985), winning two World championships with Hackner and a bronze medal at the Worlds with Tetley. He also skipped Northern Ontario to a gold medal at the 1981 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Lang later skipped Northern Ontario at the 1991 and 1993 Briers. He also played third on Al Hackner's Canadian Senior Men's championship team in 2006, and won a silver medal on the team at the 2007 World Senior Curling Championships. ChessGenius is the name of a chess-playing computer program written by Richard Lang who has in the past written programs that have won the World Computer Chess Championship on 10 occasions. History ChessGenius is a continuation of a series of programs (which included various incarnations of the ''Mephisto'' program) written by Richard Lang which won the World Microcomputer Chess Championship in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1993. ChessGenius was the first computer to beat a world champion (Garry Kasparov) at a non-blitz time limit. This victory was particularly significant because in contrast to the victory two years later by Deep Blue which was running on very fast custom-built hardware, ChessGenius was running on only an early Pentium PC.
