Richard Johnson (cricketer, Born 1974)
Richard Leonard Johnson (born 29 December 1974) is a former international English cricketer and the current coach of Middlesex County Cricket Club. Domestic career A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium pace swing bowler, Johnson made his first-class debut as a teenager in the 1992 County Championship as an opening bowler for Middlesex. Johnson made headlines in 1994 when he took all ten Derbyshire wickets in their second-innings, returning figures of 10/45. These remain the best innings figures taken in the English County Championship since 1945. He joined Somerset in 2001, helping the county to win the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy in that season. He rejoined Middlesex in 2007. In a short international career, he played three Tests and ten One Day Internationals (ODIs) for England in 2003, his only year of international cricket. Chertsey is a town in the Borough of Runnymede, Surrey, England, south-west of central London. It grew up round Chertsey Abbey, founded in 666 CE, and gained a market charter from Henry I. As of 2022, 162 cricketers have taken a five-wicket haul on their debut in a Test match, with 49 of them being England players. Alfred Shaw was the first Englishman to take a five wicket haul at Test debut. He took five wickets for 38 runs in the first Test in history, against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 1877, but could not prevent England's defeat. Two Australian bowlers also picked up fifers in the same match. The most recent Englishman to achieve the feat was Rehan Ahmed. Andrew Richard Caddick (born 21 November 1968) is a former cricketer who played for England as a fast bowler in Tests and ODIs. At 6 ft 5in, Caddick was a successful bowler for England for a decade, taking 13 five-wicket hauls in Test matches. In cricket, a player's bowling average is the number of runs they have conceded per wicket taken. The lower the bowling average is, the better the bowler is performing. It is one of a number of statistics used to compare bowlers, commonly used alongside the economy rate and the strike rate to judge the overall performance of a bowler.
